Texan Girl in Small Town Iowa

Growing up in Texas I never really considered leaving, but I always thought small town life would fun and a nice change of pace. To have quiet instead of sirens, and a close community instead of neighbors you didn’t know. So getting a scholarship to attend school in Iowa seemed like a dream come true…. But I was wrong. Living in Iowa isn’t all bad but being one of what feels like 20 Latinos in the school can feel so isolating. To feel like your the only one in your class who realizes the effects of being forced to assimilate to their society or racism in general. To know you stick out like a sore thumb when you use to blend in at home can make anyone feel so lonely and isolated. What do you do to stop that from swallowing you whole? So, I’m handling this the only I’ve ever know how…. By telling my story and sharing my thoughts because we all have a voice and no voice should be told to stay quiet.
