When S is for Silence by Sue Grafton came out, my mom refused to let me read it. She claimed it was "too graphic" for me. I bought it myself when I turned eighteen because hello, I was an adult and she couldn't stop me. I read it and didn't think it was graphic. Being a member of writing websites for years, I had read and had written things that were more graphic than that.

Looking back, it makes me laugh because clearly she was a little conservative. When I was little there was a radio station she refused to let us listen to because the call letters were KISS. Yet, she bought me Britney Spears' In The Zone when it came out because she knew how much I loved Britney.

Clearly, she had no idea how sexual Britney had gotten at that point.
