In Need of Some Help

I need to know some examples of daily living skills for the main character of my story. I mean, beside holding a job or owning an apartment. I plan on using those two ideas later in the story. Right now, I want to focus on smaller things first. I don't know how to do most daily living myself. So, it's hard to really know what to do for this one. I want to make it interesting as I can as well as find ways the MC can prove to her mother she's independent. There's gotta be some stuff she can do to work her way up as well. If anyone has any ideas they can offer me, it would be greatly appreciated as well. :c
