Songfics?

I'm find songfics very interesting and I am considering writing some of my own... I was wondering if anyone has any tips. Stylistic? Song choice? Length? Dialogue? Where to intersperse the lyrics?

I am considering these songs (and some others):

In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars

The New e Blues - Western States Motel

Eyes - Rogue Wave

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

And multiple Decemberists songs, although some of them don't leave very much to build around a story around...

So, any tips are much appreciated. If you have any songfics, I would be happy to read them for inspiration and just because I enjoy them =)
