Lasik Eye Surgery

I've been researching into Lasik eye surgery and I've decided I want to get the surgery done. I've had glasses since I've been 6 years old and I can't imagine what life would be like without having to put on my glasses every morning before I even get out of bed. My insurance won't cover it because it's a cosmetic surgery since glasses and contacts are always an option and the surgery isn't medically necessary, at least in my case. So I'll have to wait until I have enough money saved up again, which could be over $1,000, so we're talking probably tax time next year if my money doesn't go to college or bills again.

Anyways, has anyone had the surgery done? Where did you go? Did you have any complications?
I work with one woman who had it done and she said the surgery was pretty painless and she doesn't have to wear glasses. She said she did one eye at a time and her vision recovered within a week. My great-grandmother had it done too and she didn't need glasses after.
