Prompts and Counters

Seeing as I'm still awake at almost 4AM, since sleep and my hips hate me but not awake enough to write for my stories coherently, I decided to write this blog to have a list of good places to go for prompts as well as word counters if anyone needs them.

I thought it might be helpful for myself and those of us doing the monthly writing challenge as well. So here I go:

Writing Prompt Sites:

Think Written || 365 prompts for 365 days.

Poets & Writers || You can filter the prompts by what you're writing, which is pretty rad.

Reedsy || Has a lot of varied prompts, from blurbs to spark creativity to full scenarios.

Teach Starter || Randomized prompt images you can shuffle/refresh as you please.

Chaotic Shiny || Has tons of prompts, resources, and generators (think names, languages, etc.) for fantasy writing.

Writing Prompt Tumblrs:

Daily Prompts || A lot of variety here as well. I personally follow this one just because I like the stuff they put out a lot.

Put the Prompts on the Paper || This blog posts regular and music prompts, which I love, because a good song can go a long way for me.

Words n Quotes Writers || A blog dedicated to aspiring writers, you can search through numbered quotes so it can be randomized if you want!

Original Photgraphers || A great, eclectic variety of inspiring pictures can be found here.

Delta Breezes || This blog is filled with a lot of great nature and aesthetic pictures.

Colourpod || Because sometimes colors are inspiring too!

Character Resources:

Character Development Questionnaire || A fantastic way to develop your character, no matter the age or type.

Behind the Name Original || Has hundreds maybe thousands of names and lots of ways to filter. A great tool for accuracy and variety.

Behind the Name Surname Version || The same concept, but with last names.

Family Echo || A great resource for building family trees for your characters.

Fantasy Name Generators || A great resource for fantasy names and other things.

Character Trait Generator || A great way to build different characters with a variety of traits.

Quick Character Generator || A great resource for either starting a main character you can build on, or to spice up some background characters.

Female Face Claims || An amazing page put together by witch mercy where you can find a face claim for your female characters based off of age, ethnicity, occupation, etc.

Place Resources:

Place Name Generator || Get a great name for your city, town, country, etc.

Plot Resources:

10 Point Model || A very useful method for outlining your plot and the events/conflicts in it.

Word Counters:
I know most of us use the word count on whatever program we're writing on, but sometimes these have other features that are useful/helpful.

Word Counter.io
(This one is my personal favorite. It tells you your current character and word counts, and most frequently used keywords, as well as sentences and paragraphs.)
Word Counter
Easy Word Count

That's all I have for now. I'll likely add to this in the future. But for now, I'm going to attempt to sleep, as my eyelids are heavy.

We'll see what happens.
