good writers?

Okay, so this is abit random, but what journal isn't? Okay so anyway on topic. My English teacher last year said that most great writers have experienced alot of pain in their life. I'm wondering how many of you think that's true? I mean it seems correct for me and my one friend, but I'm nost sure if it's true for like most writers I guess. Writer's can become better because they've felt the pain and sadness in life along with the happiness and joy that comes throughout. Does that make sense? I'm just wondering how true alot of you guys think that is, and what your opinions are on the matter.

Thanks for reading,
