Why are they your heroes?

I always see people all over this site and others saying that Gerard Way, or Pete Wentz, or Bert McCracken ect. are their heroes. Why?
I mean, I understand that these people make good music, and are quite attractive, but is that really a reason to make someone your "hero"? I mean, what have they really done?
Not only that, but most of these rockstars you call heroes are not people you want to look up to. Like Pete Wentz. He tried to commit suicide, he's always doing really crazy and stupid things, and you look up to him just because he's good looking and has a record deal? What has he ever done for you?
And then there's Gerard Way. I have seen countless people claiming that he's there hero, for such reasons as that he was an acoholic and drug addict and overcame his addictions.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love all these people and I love their music, but if Gerard was really that heroic, he wouldn't have become so addicted in the first place, would he?

I don't understand why people don't find people who have really done something, really helped people intentionally, to be their heroes.
