Gay parents

People always seem so quick to judge gay couples as not being good for a child's social development. And yet, with the number of alcoholic, abusive and absent parents there are around, I think a child these days would be lucky to have relatively normal, gay parents.

Some people say that a child needs a mother and a father to have the best possible experience. But then, I know kids who have been raised by grandparents, single mothers or by a batchelor uncle or aunt and have turned out fine. When you are adopted, you are rarely going to refer to your childhood as 'the best possible' anything, but I don't think being taken in by any loving adult is a bad thing. Everybody has their quirks, and experiencing that is a part of growing up, not a detrimental.

Personally, I don't know anyone who has had a 'perfect' childhood, but I think that if single adults and other atypical families have the right to adopt, then gay couples should too. What do you think?
