Burning Out, Fading Away (Kurt Cobain)

"...remember, it's better to burn out than to fade away"

This is a sentence from Kurt Cobain's suicide note. I know it is from a Neil Young song but Kurt used it in a different context. I was just curious as to what people thought he meant. I think he essentially said that it's better to die suddenly, with a huge BANG than to slowly drift to death...grow old... This might be a misinterpretation, but nobody can really claim that I'm wrong and they're right. But does anyone think he meant something different?

Concerning my interpretation of Kurt Cobain's interpretation: I personally believe that if you affected the world for better or for worse, if you're already known well, it doesn't really matter. What difference does it really make whether you burn out or fade away? Because, either way, you're dying. And either way, people are going to remember you.
