Bechdel's graphic memoir follows a young Alison through childhood and into her young adult life in a manner described by the author as "a labyrinth... going over the same material, but starting from the outside and spiraling in to the center of the story." With ample laughs, tears and awkwardness, the text is refreshing, endearing and original - both for those acquainted with her infamous 'Dyke to Watch Out For' as well as the uninitiated.
