With Snape as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Harry now excels in Potions class, mainly because he receives a used potions book that used to belong to someone calling themselves the "Half-Blood Prince". Meanwhile, Harry and Dumbledore work together to find as many memories of Voldemort as possible to give Harry an advantage in the impending fight. One of the memories alerts Harry that Voldemort created Horcruxes; magical objects which give the creator extra lives. Together, Harry and Dumbledore leave the castle to get a locket. Upon their return, Dumbledore is confronted by Draco Malfoy who tells of his intentions to kill the Headmaster. Before Malfoy can do such a thing, Snape shows up and kills Dumbledore himself. Harry rushes after Snape to avenge Dumbledore's death where Snape reveals that he is the Half-Blood Prince, earning him time to get away.
