Four years after Margaret's father mysteriously drowned, her mother is still in a depression, making the bare minimum to support her and her little sister Sophie. One day on another uneventful Sunday, their mother takes them to an abandoned old house and puts a FOR SALE BY OWNER sign in the yard. Soon after, Margaret starts discovering strange but ordinary objects that seem to link her family to the house: a key, a swimming medal, and a hand-written comic book. Determined to solve the mystery behind her family she enlists the help of the house's next door neighbor, a comic book nerd named Boyd. Together they set out to discover the truth, but quickly discover that not all fiction is false, and that the truth behind it will turn their worlds upside down.
