Jack is five-years-old and his entire world is a room measured 11-feet-by-11-feet. He has all he needs there: his Ma, his cartoon characters that he calls his friends and the various home-made toys. The only bad thing in his life is Old Nick, who comes into Room when Jack is asleep in the wardrobe. Jack believes everything else is just on televion, until one day Ma tells him the truth about Old Nick and the rest of the world outside of Room.
