Howard Roark is the visionary architect ahead of his time. He refuses to conform to his society's ideals of what is proper architecture and will not allow anyone to make any adjustments to his plans and drawings. He battles everyone as very few stand with him. Peter admires Roarks' ability and courage, but is successful conforming to society's standards. However, his success depended heavily on help from Roark. When Roarks' nemesis offers Peter the connections he needs to make it on his own, Peter must choose between the complicated roads of his passion, or the easy, dirty, route to success. Roark falls in love with Dominique Francon, his former employer's daughter and columnist. Dominique tries to destroy the very man she has fallen for before the world can break him. Roark breaks down the barriers of a society afraid of change whilst battling his antagonist, and master manipulator, Ellsworth Toohey. Toohey has control over the simple minded population, and even takes aim at Dominique.
