Laura lives in solitary castle with her father, a retired and wealthy English widower, in the midst of a vast forest in Styria. When a carriage accident outside of her home welcomes a girl that is seemingly her age by the name of Carmilla, Laura recognizes her from a dream. As time carries on after Carmilla's mysterious mother leaves her at the castle, both girls become close friends and eventually, Laura is susceptible to Carmilla's unsettling attention.
