When a young girl is found dead in an East Berlin graveyard after allegedly trying to enter the East to escape the regime of West Germany, Volkspolezei detective Karin Müller is brought in to investigate. However, after being instructed to find only the identity of the girl without investigating or challenging the official cause and course of death, Müller finds herself drawn into a battle between her allegiance to the state of East Germany and her desire to find out the truth.
