I think this is my favorite story by Poe.. the way he wrote it was just so brilliant though! You can imagine someone sitting there, telling the story. When I imagine it (and I read it out loud to a friend of mine once) the narrator starts out so calm, talking about how he isn't mad and about how cunning he is. Then, as the story progresses, he slowly starts getting more and more worked up, and by the end, his slow, calm speech has become fast and loud. I imagine him as worked up at the end and yelling.
I also kind of found it funny how he didn't actually have a motive for killing the old man besides a 'vulture eye'. The old man was nice to him, had never wronged him, he wasn't interested in the guy's money or anything... it was just an issue he had with the guy's eye. I don't know why, but that's made me laugh.
This one one of my favorite works by Edgar Allan Poe. The main character himself was very interesting in how he went over the murder. Calm but oh so insane even if he claimed not to be.
