What genre do you hate?

  • I really cannot stand rap. And that's about it. The only rap artist I enjoy is Eminem.

Other than that, I'm pretty down for any type of music.

  • I'm not fan of bluegrass, death metal, black metal, and polka. I'm sure there are some others I'm missing. I'm also not a big fan of post-hardcore, rap, or country. I do like some artists/bands from each of those last three genres.

Oh, and I know tons of pop artists who actually sing about something. I also know a few rappers that rap about something.

  • I've said different in the past, but today... there is no single genre that I hate.

True, there may be more than a few bands I'm not fond of. This used to be the case with my opinion of Hip-Hop. There are so many Hip-Hop artists that I cannot stand... but then there are also a handful that I really, really, really like. To disown an entire genre just because there are a few bad apples, when there are still masterpieces to be enjoyed within it... I think that's just a really shallow way of thinking.

That's how I think of it now. No-one could possibly listen to every artist out there, but I've heard more than most people have. If you seriously dislike, or hate an entire genre, I'll bet that's because you haven't had a good chance to properly explore it.

  • I've heard various bands for death metal and black metal so that's why I don't like it. As for the other two, I've heard music from them too and didn't like it. Bluegrass isn't too bad, I do have some bluegrass artists in my library. But sure, by all means, I'm "shallow".

  • I'm not a fan of country. I like basically anything, ranging from dubstep, techno, and trance, to metal, screamo, and synthrock. I like a bit of rap.

  • country, rap, and most of the new pop! >.<

  • I can NOT stand dubstep or most rap or country or bluegrass no matter how hard I try. LMFAO is on thin ice by my standards so that entire genre I hate. I also don't like metal. Just any kind of metal except some 80s hair metal stuff XD

  • I hate most country, pop, and newer rap and hip-hop (older rap is awesome). Every now and then I hear a song from one of those genres that I like, but most of the time I hate it.

  • Not a fan of rap, can't stand anything with screaming unless it's extremely sparse. This isn't a very fair accusation to make since I haven't listened much to it, but most heavy metal sounds the same to me. Confused I like country but in small doses, it's not something I'd want to listen to five songs of in a row.

While this isn't really a genre, I don't like listening to songs that are blatantly about having sex or other such matters. Nothing turns me off to a song faster than mindlessly explicit lyrics.

  • I HATE anything like classical, blues, etc. I also hate anykind of indie music.

I think the same can be said of any genre that's unfamiliar to someone, really. It's easy, for example, to hear two pieces of classical music and think it sounds the same/similar, but it's a hugely diverse kind of music. So I think it's an understandable point of view, but it's easily changed, the more of it you hear. Club music still sounds pretty much all the same to me, because I don't really actively listen to it, but I know that there's more to it than meets the eye ear. XD

  • I really just don't like country. I don't hate it, it's just my least favorite genre. I cannot find anything I like, no matter how many chances I give it.

I'll just hang onto my "scary screamy music" that most people I know call it. By the way, to the people (not referring to anyone in the thread, just in general) who say you don't like metal or whatever because of the screaming, the more you listen to it the clearer it gets. You have to train yourself, and I'll admit, that genre is an acquired taste. I love most metal sub genres, but there are even some that I'm like uh, calm yourself. Hand

  • I don't really dislike any genres, let alone 'hate' them. Taste isn't as simple as being restricted to categories, really; there's probably at least one song/piece of music from every genre that a person can like.

  • Whoa just found this and read someone talking about 'new' bands like Panic/FOB and I was so confused but it was from 2 years ago.

Anyway ... bubblegum pop not from the 90s, most R&B, most hip-hop, most rap.

I do not like screamo or anything so hard you can't detect/understand lyrics. It does give me a headache and I don't enjoy it at all. I also am really interested in lyrics so not hearing them turns me off.

Because I enjoy lyrics as much as music, I do not enjoy a lot of instrumental music.

Not a fan of a jazz or blues.

  • I'm not a fan of the indie-pop of today, like fun. and Foster the People. Maybe it's because I was so into that genre a few years back that hearing it now, it all sounds the same, but whenever I try to give it a chance, it all ends up sounding the same to me. To me, it's boring. There are some exceptions, though. (I really do like Matt and Kim tehe )

  • Black Metal and Death Metal, although I really enjoy metal. Black Metal seems childish to me, and I can't stand squeals, gutturals or screams, only a few exceptions (bands like In Solitude, and they only use them for emphasis). So, screamo, metalcore, and anything like that... just not my type of music.

  • @ hawker!
Ironically, that's some of the rare stuff I still like.

But I don't like anything Panic/FOBesque really (though I don't hate the bands I used to listen to). It just doesn't interest me anymore.

  • I really cannot tolerate any rap, hip-hop, or R&B. Not a big pop fan either, though there are some artists that I don't mind. Also can't do the screamo/death metal stuff. I love all kinds of rock, but I also love lyrics, and if I can't understand the lyrics and can't sing along, then I most likely won't listen to it (IE: I'm actually not a huge fan of Avenged Sevenfold's first album, and if you know me, you know how much I love Avenged)
