Does anyone know any good. um... like medieval/ futuristic fantasy books.
Sort of like, the city of ashes trilogy by Cassandra Clare.
Don't worry about length, it just has to... you know hold your attention.
So it can't have long bits in it where nothing happen's.
I also would like an idea for a depression/suicide book, which deals with letting go, and moving on,

I just need to find a book to read, I aneed anything to keep my thoughts away from her...

Does anyone know any good slightly dark fantasy books? I'm really into fantasy, but I'm sick of the whole teenage vampires/werewolves/fallen angels sort of thing now, and I'm looking for something a bit different. I'm also really into the whole dystopian world type things too. I'm not fussed about the length or how 'hard' it is, but I don't want it to be over in a day or two.

I need Fantasy/Romance. Romance being a biggish part. Dragons and fairies and what not. I tend to like fast-paced books, so that would be nice if you happen to know one.

Also, need me some good romance in general. Lots of drama/angsty with a lovely happy ending if it suits you. :D

For people requesting fantasy (as in, not sparkling vampires or werewolves related): Graceling by Kristen Cashore, The Poison Throne (series) by Celine Kiernon, A Kiss in Time (a retelling of Sleeping beauty) by Alex Flinn, Wicked Lovely (fairies and romance)by Melissa Marr, Runemarks by Joanne Harris, The Sea of Trolls (series) by Nancy Farmer, If you're into fantasy medieval settings, check out Sherwood Smith. Also, back to Kristen Cashore for a moment: she has a new book out called, Fire, which takes place in a medieval setting ravaged by "raptor monsters" which from the sample chapter I read, seem to resemble dragons.

If you are over the age of 18, there's a smutty take on the Sleeping beauty story with a fantasy medieval setting and kings and queens and nobility written by Anne Rice under a penname, before she started writing vampire novels, called "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" series.

Tamora Pierce is a good author for fantasy. So is Robin McKinley. I just recently got into finding obscure fantasy novels, and I've got lists and lists of books I want to read, but I'm not sure if they are good or what you're looking for at this point.

A great series to read is the Gemma Doyle series, which consists of A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Things. They're by Libba Bray. (If I remember correctly.)

Another good book is The Iron King and the second in the series which I haven't read yet The Iron Daughter. I got The Iron King a few days ago and it's really good. They're by Julie Kagawa.

Does anyone know any other good fantasy books that are not about vampires or werewolves?

I read a book about ten years ago, and I really enjoyed it, but I can't remember who wrote it or the title or character names. I thought it was called "The Halcyon House," but I can't find it anywhere. It centered around this girl who came from a large family and she lived near this creepy abandoned house. The girl and a friend investigate the house for ghosts and they meet a boy there who is supposed to be rich and popular. And they go around the house trying to find out why a little girl died there decades ago. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know.

Some of my favorite fantasy books:
The Chronicals of Narnia by CS Lewis
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien (one of my favorites ever)
The Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke
The Inheritence Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, etc.) by Christopher Paolini is pretty good
I don't know what to call the series, but the first book is called The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey. They're not at all what you'd expect, especially the first one.
The His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman (Happy face)
Also, Wicked by Gregory Maguire is good, but it's pretty political and can be dry sometimes.

Currently, I'm reading Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. It's Fantasy/Horror, and it's awesome xD It might be hard to get into if you're not at least a little bit of a history buff though.

    ^ Anything by Stephen King!

To get you started I'd recommend something light such as Carrie or The Dead Zone. He also has short stories which could be good to start with. I am currently reading his newest short story collection, Full Dark, No Stars.

    I hope that helps. :)

I'm looking for some classics and old English literature. I tried Pride and Prejudice [the minuscule detail and story flow was just not something I could stand] and didn't like it; same with Romeo and Juliette [too much of a hyperbole love story for me].

I'd really appreciate the help! I've got The Tales of Two Cities by Dickens, Wuthering Heights by Shakespeare, Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck and The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald on my list... I need more, more more though.

    Thanks in advance. xox

There's always True Grit by Charles Portis, and Louis L'Amour's books are all westerns I think. And I've found this list on Amazon of some westerns. Here's a list from GoodReads. If you don't mind a bit of cross-genre, The Gunslinger series from Stephen King might be something to check out. I'm not fluent in the genre, but those are off the top of my head.

Does anybody know of a good classic book or two? It's a reading assignment, but we're allowed to choose our own books.
