Did anyone else watch last night's episode?? I actually loved it, and I was honestly close to tears. I'm really sad about Amy and Rory - they're definitely my favourite companions. I haven't been too impressed by some of the episodes in this series; they were good, just not great, but that episode totally made up for it. And River came back! XD

I actually can't work out my favourite companions. Obviously Amy and Rory were great, but they had so many more comical moments than emotional. I think I'd have to go with the popular answer of Rose, since she captured all the emotion, and saw two sides of the Doctor. She lost one Doctor, then lost another straight after. That must be an awful thing to experience, especially since every companion gets so attached to their Doctor.

And last episode will be played constantly at my funeral for a reason for my death.

I'm gonna miss the Ponds very much, but I'm actually way more okay with their departure than I thought I would be. It was done in a way that felt okay. Like they still had each other at least. Also, the episode just kicked all kinds of ass.

You're not alone. Like part two of S7 just ended and I'm still asdfgh about it. Claraaaaaa baby. I'm so fond of her while admittedly this wasn't my favorite season. Like "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS" had to be my favorite episode this go around, especially after the finale. And we have the 50th coming up in a few months? Oh goodness. Especially considering the characters returning for it!

Hide was probably my favorite episode this season, along with Nightmare in Silver, they were so good! I had been really excited for Journey to the Center of the TARDIS and it just wasn't what I expected. I love Clara so much but I feel like she definitely has not been around long enough to be this important already?

THE 50TH IS IN LIKE 6 MONTHS THAT'S MORE THAN A FEW D: But oh my gosh DT and BP I am so excited

I just wasn't fond of the second half of S7 - I think it lacked something. I love Clara and that River came back and as always, Matt Smith's performance, but... I dunno.

By the way... anyone else watch 'Doctor Who: Live'? If so, thoughts on Twelve?

I like him. I was getting really nervous and then he came out, and it just felt like it made sense, you know? I'm talking with my friend however who is very underwhelmed. We talked last week about who we thought might be casting, and we were both really hoping for a black/female Doctor. He isn't surprised.
I think it will be good. I love that he is older too. I was really scared they were going to choose another younger actor. I'm excited and I'm not as concerned with how the next season will be, at least in that respect.
But I am going to miss Matt Smith so incredibly much. He's my Doctor. So many people started with Ten and I started with Eleven, and I watched seasons five and six before I went back to Nine, so those regeneration didn't effect me as much I think. This whole this just made me realize how much this might suck.

I'm really happy. I get the feeling it'll be a little darker at times, kind of like with nine.

Also I'm cackling because I can't unsee an image of Malcolm Tucker in space XD

I might get back into Doctor Who now that Matt Smith isn't the Doctor. I was such a fan for Nine and Ten but then Eleven came and he looked too young, and then I gave him a chance for one episode and he didn't win me over so I gave up. But as Twelve's been in a previous episode with Ten and Donna, I can't wait to see him behind the TARDIS controls. tehe

I started watching Doctor Who only last summer, and I fell in love with it crazy fast. Because I bounced between episodes and therefore different Doctors at first, I don't really have a Doctor that was my first. I have loved 9, 10, and 11 for various reasons; though, I think David Tennant's Doctor may be my favorite - Matt Smith almost ties him for his fun child-like action, though.

One thing is that I love that the 12th Doctor is going to be older. I'm excited they're going back to a more mature, wiser (or, at least, I picture Peter's Doctor as being more wise and sage) guy. After having watched a lot of the classic Doctor Who, it's clear that older actors can absolutely play the Doctor, so I have high hopes for Peter Capaldi, especially since he's a seasoned British actor and has been involved with the show and its spin-offs before. He knows what he's inheriting here.

I may be alone in this, but I'm also interested to see if this change makes the romantic aspects of the show simmer down. Don't get me wrong, I loved the relationship between 9 and 10 and Rose, and I enjoyed River Song's sassy, I-know-you-you-can't-dupe-me but sincere love for her Doctor. But I feel that romance has become this over-bearing plot line on the show. Donna is one of my favorite companions because with her, the episodes seemed to focus more on the adventure and how what the Doctor does affects the people around him. They were able to go back and forth and provide amusement, but there was none of this bow-chicka-wow-wow stuff. Hah, maybe I'm silly. But, anyway, I'm excited after the reveal, and I ABSOLUTELY can't wait until November and the 50th as well as the dun dun dun CHRISTMAS SPECIAL.

Oh my God, the Christmas episode. I'll chuck it all in white so I don't spoil it...
Oh my Lord, I knew that he was regenerating but bringing Amy in? Really? I am genuinely crying right now. Matt is the only Doctor I've actually had to wait for episodes for, and if anything that makes him a tiny bit more special to me. His regeneration has hit hard.

Anyway, onto the episode. It was absolutely brilliant. I loved the Weeping Angels at the start, and how he was carrying the broken eye stalk and then the Cyberman head into the respective ships. That was comedic relief, though I wished there had been more at the end as well, rather than just his "they take so long to talk I'll die of boredom first" line.

The setup and wrapping up of all the loose ends, especially about the crack in the wall, was magnificent. I think Moffat really outdid himself in this one, bar how Clara continued to be transported away by the TARDIS. It was sweet how he wanted her to be his last victory though. I'm sorry, I'm probably a blubbering mess by now. Just... Amy! Someone please come and blubber with me? Or even just talk technicalities about the episode. I'm down for that too.

I only have one question though: how the heck did the angels get to Trenszalor first? I mean, the Church claimed they were there first and immediately set up the shields. (I also loved how scary - well not very scary but you get what I mean - the angels were - I hoped it would have been a much scarier episode than it actually was.) Think

    @ sheepcat;
I actually loathed the episode and thought the his regeneration was the only saving grace of it all. Rest in white.

It was such a lackluster episode and I'm mad at the way the Doctor acted. He failed to be the Doctor here. He stopped being a hero; it was all Clara. Clara was more of the Doctor than he was. She rewrote time, she saved the Doctor, she saved all those people on Trenzalore. The Doctor literally just sat around waiting for death for the majority of the episode.

What pissed me off is that when he resigned himself to fate, he willingly condemned millions of people to death with him and he was just okay with that. He spent centuries guilt ridden by destroying Gallifrey, he now knows he actually saved everyone, and here is equalling it out. He saved billions in the Time War and let millions die on Trenzalore. If Clara hadn't showed up and appealed to the Time Lords (which I don't know why he didn't do because he's always done it in the past when he had no other options to save people), he wouldn't have been given more regeneration energy so he couldn't have wiped out his enemies and everyone would've died along with him. That's not the way of the Doctor.

His speech in the TARDIS was nice though. I liked the fish fingers and custard, I liked the dropping of the bow tie, I like that Amy showed up, even though most people seem to think that ruined it. I liken it to when Five regenerated and he saw that hallucination of Adric in his final moments. It was a lovely way to show the Doctor never forget his fallen companion and those he travelled with that impacted him in this regeneration. My complaint here is that I would've liked a reference to Rory at least as well because we got one to River.

I thought his last lines were beautiful because the Eleventh Doctor has always been the man who forgets and his last promise is to remember all of his time as the Doctor.

The regeneration itself was anti-climatic. Blink and miss it, gosh. That was so rushed. Not even a morph like we usually get. Just Matt Smith popped his head down and up came Peter Capaldi. Could've transitioned a little bit better there.

As for the Angels, most likely they figured out a way to get through, as did the Cybermen, the Sontarans, the Daleks. It wasn't a very good shield and the Angels are very clever. There's also the possibility they may have come through the crack, as they were sucked into it in Flesh and Stone. I'd just go with the shield sucked given how many of the Doctor enemies were able to cross it.

    @ artystka.

I think the regeneration was possibly meant to mirror Hartnell's regeneration, which, if I'm remembering rightly was also really quick (perhaps not as instantaneous, but still much quicker than the others).

    -

I thought the episode was pretty abysmal overall. It was boring? Yeah, boring. It felt too much like other episodes Moffat has written (all the back and forth and bittiness of it, I'm probably not making sense, I'm really tired atm), but yeah was a complete let down from the 50th for me.

I quite liked the way Clara took control. She's been a very boring character (in my eyes. I know some people like her.) and it was nice to see her actually do something. I know that she had to be kept a secret, due to her being the one who saves the Doctor (which came through in this episode) but nobody can write her like Moffat can.

I guess I'll agree with you there. It was odd of him, but he did think that the only way to save them would be by telling them his name. I was scared stiff at the thought of them actually revealing it. (Though I have a sneaky suspicion that they haven't actually thought of a name for him and they're just toying with us.)

The dropping of the bow tie was so sad. And I wish Rory had had a reminder too. He saved the Doctor's life too and was a companion.

I think it was quite good, personally. Now that Ive accepted it, it was quite a clean break and it was a shock.

The whole trough the crack is a very interesting idea. Except that they were quite a fair bit away from it. They said so themselves that the shield wouldn't last forever, so I can understand the others. But the "it doesn't work on wood" Cyberman. tehe

I can see how you find it disappointing. In some aspects it did fall short.

Clara Oswald was boring during the past episodes. Actually, series 7 wasn't as magnificent and bold as what I expected it to be. I am a super fan of Amy Pond and ever since she and Rory died in the episode The Angels Take Manhattan, the succeeding episodes were a drag. That is in my opinion, though.

As for the Christmas special of the Eleventh Doctor, I had to say that it was heartbreaking. It fell short in some aspects and the ending was just an anti-climax. But I had to say, it was the saddest thing to have ever seen him go. Yes, when he dropped his bow, that really broke my heart.

When Amy Pond appeared, my mind reeled. I didn't understand as to how she came there but she did. I felt so nostalgic when I saw her because I missed her terribly. She, the Doctor and Rory will always be in my heart. Cry

I am a fan of Steven Moffat. I know that some don't really like him since he makes the story more complex than it should be. But, Moffat this time did not impress me. He created my best villain, the Weeping Angels and created Amy Pond, my favorite character.

I am curious, nervous and excited to watch Peter Capaldi (even though I still miss Matt); I wonder what would happen with him and Clara, though.

Does anyone want to talk about how they're receiving Capaldi's Doctor?

Because I'm absolutely loving him and all the little references to Classic Who like the mini-scope from last night's episode. In Love

I understand that a lot of people don't like him so far because he's so different from Ten and Eleven, but I think that's what I'm enjoying most about him.

Capaldi is winning me over so slowly; I blame my starting with Matt Smith's Eleven and going backwards to catch up. Ten and Eleven were great, but it is taking some used to having a new Doctor. However, I love that they aren't ignoring Classic Who any more and giving him the crotchety old man perspective. Capaldi is holding his own - my ridiculous prejudices are just the only thing keeping me from calling him superb.

However, they need to get rid of Clara or give her a storyline. Such flat characterization. With previous companions, we've already had an insight to their thinking patterns, weaknesses, etc.
