Death Sentences

Honestly I think that the prison system in the United States is overcrowded.
However, I don't think that Death Sentences are effective for the simple fact there are innocents there. But on the same note I think some people honestly deserve to die. So I am torn on the whole subject.

In the case of Saddam Hussein, I think it was necessary. Dealing with terrorists is a little bit different, and so I think sometimes we do need to use the death sentence on them.

In general, though, I am against the death penalty. I just always think that killing somebody as punishment for killing somebody, or any other crime doesn't really make much sense.

I just wrote out my first letter a week ago, and I'm really excited to start talking with them.

I wish I could write letters to them. I think it's recommended that we don't ask about their crimes though and that, unfortunately for me, is what I'm most interested in. Have you received any responses? :)

Prisons are too overcrowded but nonetheless I'm on the fence with this subject. I think it's justifiable for the inmates who deserve to die for what they did but on the other hand I'm against it because of the amount of innocent people who are sentenced.

My biggest issues with the death penalty are the fact that our justice system is inherently flawed. There is no such thing as a truly fair trial for most individuals in this country, and the rate of false convictions is way too high.

Another issue is that we routinely don't do it well. It was mentioned earlier that lethal injection is a humane way to do it, but the fact of the matter is that studies have shown otherwise. Plus, on top of that, the drugs that could have possibly made it humane are becoming out of our reach and so those scheduled to be executed are essentially being turned into human guinea pigs. We have no idea how those drugs will interact and in some cases have had monstrous results. Botched executions are happening frequently and the only thing our government is doing is trying to pass laws so that those doing the executions don't have to admit that these actions are being done really badly.

On a less heart wrenching note, the death penalty just also isn't a deterrent to anyone other than the person being executed. Which, life in prison would have also been a deterrent to that one person, and it would have been cheaper to do.
