How can there not be a thread about this band?

The band has described their sound as "Bruce Springsteen singing for a Cure cover band, with a tinge more aggression."

One critic said, "The Gaslight Anthem are like something out of speculative fiction: this is what pop music would be if Springsteen hadn't listened to his producer, let The Ramones record 'Hungry Heart,' and launched the C.B.G.B.'ers into megastardom."

In my opinion The '59 Sound is easily one of the best albums of '08. If not the best.

Does anybody else listen to them?

I LOVE The Gaslight Anthem. They're easily one of my favourite bands. I heard Wooderson on the Warped '08 compilation and I was sold.

I can't believe I didn't notice that there wasn't a thread for them already. I also can't believe there wasn't one already. These guys are so great they are probably my second favourite band of all time. And I agree that '59 sound was the best to come from 08.

I want to see them so badly, but I have to go to the other side of the country to do so. Do not have time for that.

Here's looking at you, kid is a spectacular song and one of my all time favorites. The record doesn't really have any bad songs, just songs I don't like as much.

I know what you mean. The songs are bad but I like some more than others. They played a concert near me recently but I couldn't go to it because it was in an 18+ bar and I'm too young to get in. I would love to see them live though.

^ I hate when that happens. I wanted to see Bon Iver but it was a 20+ venue so I couldn't go. I could however see Slipknot if I wanted to. Odd.

I really want to buy Sink or Swim. But it's always sold out when I'm supposed to buy it.

That was like me and '59 sound. Whenever it was in shops I had no money and when I had money it was sold out. I had never seen Sink or Swim in shops until the other day but I didn't have money on me so I didn't get it. :/ I really want it too though.

I learned about this band sometime in January, and since then I've bought their latest CD and fell in love with nearly every song. I'd have to say Casanova, Baby! is my favorite. These guys are amazing and I would love to see them live.

    Why wasn't I told about a TGA thread? :O

These dudes are hands-down my favorite band since August 2008. There isn't a song of theirs I don't like; Brian Fallon is my new hero. Cute

    Can't wait until American Slang!

American Slang is absolutely incredible! I think my favorite song is Diamond Street Church Choir or Bring It On... or the bonus track, She Loves you.

I purchased American Slang a few days ago and let me tell you, it's been on repeat ever since. In Love

I want to go back to last year and the fucking amazing show they put on.
One of the best I've ever seen.

I had a massive binge on just them not too long ago. They never get boring. There's something hypnotic about Brian's voice, and the energy that he exudes. It's wonderful. When he sang the acoustic version of Casanova, Baby, I cried, ha. "Forget this dead man's town, I'll take you home" Innovators. This is what music should be.

Brian's voice makes my heart twist up in happiness.
Something about it just makes the words in the songs mean that much more, y'know?

Wonderful band. One of my favourites, for sure.
Seeing them live, last year, was what really got me into obsessively listening to them.
    They were so good.

I love The Gaslight Anthem. I first heard 'Wooderson' when I was over in New York in summer of 2008 and fell in love. I saw them play for the second time last month and was lucky enough to meet Brian. Following them on tour when they come back over in October/November, so excited!

OMFG You are so lucky! I would love to see them play live and meet Brian. I've heard they are absolutely incredible live and ... aah I am beginning to become obsessive of this band. They are amazing on so many levels and quite frankly, very underrated. I don't mind though, more for me! Cute
