We had to read it for Lit in eight grade, and everyone hated it, but I thought it was pretty good. :XD I loved the concept.

I thought this book was really good. It's confusing at first, but it's really good once you get farther into the story. I didn't like the ending though.

I had to read this for school and it confused the heck out of me! I just hated it so much. Now, in retrospect, it wasn't too bad. I just remember this book everytime I hear about the Jonas Brothers, because of the protagonists name...:XD

    Pretty good (:
BUT I HATED THE ENDING, haha. This is why I don't read sci-fi very often--I absolutely detest abrupt endings/

I don't know how many times I've read this book.
    Like a million probably.
    It is phenomenal.

I read this book a few years ago and personally, I didn't get the ending of the book. I haven't read it since then, so I could probably read it again and get it but when I read it then, I didn't get it. I also didn't see why it was so... life changing, I guess. My teacher said that there was a lesson in the book, which I didn't see.

But overall, I thought it was good but not the greatest book ever.

    Hate it!
They made me read it this year, and who in the world does things like that?
I don't think they should have been letting us read it, even though we were 14!
I mean it was scary and gave one girl nightmare's. :(

    I'm sorry.
    I just hated this book.
I had to read it in english class two years ago.
I couldn't get into it, I fell asleep while my teacher read aloud.
Although, I heard it's supposed to be made into a movie in 2010.
    I think.

I read back in sixth grade, and I hated it.
But then last year, I was at a book store, and I sat down and started reading through it. It loved it so much I bought it. I've read it three times already.
    The ending was the best.

Everyone but my hallway had to read this in 7th grade, so I never read it.
Then I got a Saturday detention in 8th, and the teacher hosting it was a 7th grade L.A. teacher. So when I finished my work, she handed me this book and I read the whole thing in a little over an hour.
Absolutely loved this. I don't think I'd like it as much if I'd been forced to read it, but still. :cute:

My teacher gave it to me in sixth grade to read and I loved it... then our 8th grade class had to read it. I loved it so much both times! If you liked it, try out Gathering Blue so you can read the messenger... its kind of like a sequal to both the Giver and Gathering Blue. ...Wow I sound like a commercial

    Isn't it a play now?

It started off as not so great of a seller, but hit the jackpot as a play. Same with Wicked by Gregory Maguire.

I loved it, personally. It helped me get through a lot, and let the rainbow of inspiration overflow in my imagination. Gossamer, another book of her's, alsp spoke to me in this way. I absolutely love her writing.

I loved this book! It was kind of creepy, especially when they told the real meaning of 'Elsewhere', but it was a really great book! I read it in 8th grade, and I think I still have a copy around the house somewhere.

I read this in school last year but I remember my mom reading it to me and my sister when we were younger. Great book, I love it.

The part when his dad killed the baby freaked me out. Shifty

By far, The Giver is my favorite book. It has been for over four years now. Nothing compares.
