It was a very good book. I think it could teach some good lessons in life... like how life is better with it's flaws and downfalls. Because seriously, the life they were living before was very bland.
I had to read this in year eight. I wasn't all that interested in the story, but I liked the utopian society setting and how it was described. I found that really fascinating.
I read it last year with the class. My teacher said it was really interesting and it grabs you and it's a real page-turner, but I don't see it. I think it was boring. Just... gah. Everything is so boring and I thought it was a waste of time. But it's probably just me - the other people keep saying it's really good; I don't get it.
I thought it was really boring too. I read it in 7th grade... but I think also why I hate it is because my teacher made us basically re-write it in summaries. The utopia idea was pretty cool but I thought the story line was really boring.
My classmates and I had to read this for the class. They weren't pretty happy about the ending, but I found it interesting. It was like being able to create your own ending. It was in my opinion a good read.
If you loved The Giver then I have to say, I'm pretty sure there's a second book to it called Son. I happened across it when working in a library. It's a newer book, I think.
I read The Giver last night in three hours and I was hooked. It's a favorite of mine, if not the top, now.
I read in fifth grade. Didn't understand it as much as I wish I had. But thinking back, it's exactly the kind of thing I love to read (and write), so I'll have to find it again.
