So, this is basically a thread in which you ask about your pet; whether you're concerned, or just curious.

The reason why I created this thread is because, one of my fish is swimming upside down. It's still breathing, but it's just swimming upside down.

It's a Calico Ryukin goldfish. And on these certain types of fish, they have a kind of slope-line-thing on both its sides. This slope helps the fish determine which way is up.

Now, I'm concerned. It's still swimming upside down. Help?

    Image

Here's a picture of it. My dad took it out of the tank, and put it into a bowl, so it could get fresh oxygen in new water. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have Swimmer's Bladder, since this has happened once before. But, now it's happened again.

    Any suggestions?

he could have had a stroke and now only has use of one side, which leads him to not being able to swim correctly, or right side up.

Now that I think of it, he could have
had a stroke. Probably, due to this
    hot weather.

When I got home from school the day after,
    I found out he died...

Along with my other one. Now I have one big, lonely
one. Now, Marlin sits in the corner of the tank, looking
    all glum.

Not everyone can afford going to a vet, & it might just turn out that it's nothing to worry about. Like a human with a common cold who is having different symptoms than usual. Paying a kazillion bucks at the doctor's to find out it's just a cold would suck. Disgust

So just remember that. I'm sure lots of Mibbians have experienced things with their pets so they're able to give advice. ;)

Ok. So, I have two goldfish. Well, they're actually feeder fish that I rescued but it's the same difference. ANYWHO, I have a tank that has a filter and bubbled and all that nice stuff but it still gets really dirty in there after a week and a half. So, I would clean the ENTIRE tank every week. So, I went to a pet store and this guy told me I was cleaning it too often and I need to only clean it once a month and when I do I can only take out a little water, replace it and replace the filter. He said the fish would grow used to it and slowly it would become a clean tank by itself... I don't think it's working and I can barely see my fish in there it's so dirty.

Does anyone know what to do?

Secondly... if a goldfish turns white, is that a bad sign?

For the very first post at the top, your fish has swim bladder. It comes from overfeeding, and my beta died from it.
For the person above me, it's common for goldfish to turn white. Try color enhancing food pellets.
For your tank, try putting some kind of snail or bottom feeder. They'll keep your tank clean.

Goldfish are naturally yellow/white. They are only orange due to selective breeding.

It was orange, though. It turned white... that's my main concern. The color they were when I got them was white and orange and now, ever since my problems with the tank, one of them has turned completely white.

^^^It could be Ick. It can kill the fish so look up the symptoms and buy drops for the fish if the symptoms match. :cute:

How old is the fish? And does it happen frequently or is it just this once? It could be ICK, or just old age. My fish are wierd like that too.

It, unfortunately, is not going to really matter anymore. Both my fish passed away about thirty minutes ago.

Thanks for the advice, guys, but they just didn't make it.

It's alright. It.s bound to happen, you know? Strangely enough, it was due to shock. The orange one stopped eating and the white one was so shocked to have the other one not there with him he just died.

I have a new problem... this time, it's with my dog.

Yesterday my dog, Shadow, limped into my room and was crying like crazy. I took her to the animal hospital but the minute I got there she was fine and walking like normal with no pain.

We get back and she starts limping and crying again once we get home. Everytime she's home she can't walk as if she has serious hip/spine problems and the minute she's outside she can walk and jump again like it's all good.

I know she's 12 years old and old age brings out spine and hip problems but, normally, she acts like a puppy... is this really normal for aging? Does it just hit them likethis out of nowhere?

Has anyone ever had this problem with their pets before? I really need some help..

I hope this thread wasn't just meant for fish ...

Anyway, one of my mice, Ted, has a problem with scratching himself until he bleeds. I have a medicinal ointment for it, which worked. But now he's scratching until the areas around his eyes are bleeding a little. I obviously can't put the mediciine from the vet on his face (first off, he said I couldn't, and second, I wouldn't anyway) so does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do?

He's so adorable Cry I hate seeing him that way.

    epic'cookie,
I have never seen anything like that before, but I recommend you try feeding it some different food and possibly cool it's water down. Not to where it is freezing cold, but just cool it down a bit. That is, if this ever happens again with a different fish.
