    Wikipedia:
J-pop is an abbreviation for Japanese pop, but is also a loosely defined musical genre that entered the musical mainstream of Japan in the 1990s. It refers to Japanese popular musicians, and was coined by the Japanese media to distinguish Japanese musicians from foreign musicians.
    So, who's into J-pop!?
And who are your favorite bands and artists?
My favorite J-pop band HAS to be Perfume. :) They're so amazing!
And i'm personally a really big fan of Utada Hikaru, as well as Ayumi Hamasaki and Namie Amuro.
    I love Bonnie Pink too.

My favorite band is Arashi!!! I could just die from happiness, even when I see their faces. They are all so funny and gorgeous and sweet as can be. I absolutely adore Nino and Sho. They have to be my favorites but still I love all of them the same.

No offense but when Perfume was on Vs. Arashi, they were really ditsy.

*sniff* So few people like Japanese Pop groups... or even Visual Kei groups for that matter, but oh well.

I love Yamashita Tomohisa and Kat-Tun, Arashi rocks too, but I prefer Kat-Tun for their music.

I'm not really much of a J-pop fan, more of a rock kind of girl. I do love Utada Hikaru, though. She's amazing.

Visual Kei falls under j-rock, and it has quite a little fanbase on Mibba, actually. Cute

Tohoshinki (Dong Bang Shin Ki) is actually Korean but they're super recognized in Japan.

I just started to listen to j-pop and I love it!
I'm currently into Perfume. AHHHH! I dance my ass off when a song starts playing on my Ipod. XD

If anyone could recommend me some groups to listen to that would be great!

I don't know a lot of bands in the j-pop genre so I'd love if anyone gave me recommendations. You can just message me them, that'd be great. Cute

Well, I know a whole lot more about the J-pop fandom than K-pop, so I'd be happy to tell you about them. The most well-known entertainment industry in Japan is called Johnny's Entertainment. Many successful idol groups are under this management, one of them is Arashi. They are my favourites and you can read a little bit about them here. I recently made a blog post about them, lol. I think I'll be uploading some stuff and videos about other younger idol groups as well, if you think the oldies are a little, well, too old to be doing this singing and dancing stuff.XD

I like J-pop a lot, though I do listen to more J-rock bands than I do J-pop. I think one of my favorite J-pop bands is quickly becoming Silent Siren. They seem to fit under both the J-pop and J-rock categories. They're just such a fun and peppy band, they're kind of cute too. c: I love their song Sweet Pop the most. SCANDAL is my favorite band and some of their songs are pop, but they're mostly a rock band so I don't really think they fit under the J-pop label really.

I like other artists like Ayumi Hamasaki, Nana Kitade, Kana Nishino, Kyary Pamyupamyu, Kanon Wakeshima (though I guess she's not exactly pop and more rock), Maon Kurosaki, Miho Fukuhara, Utada Hikaru. There's more but that's all that is really coming to mind right now.

    @ Airi.
I'd guess J-pop sounds are a little too "cutesy", hence that's why many tend to favour J-rock.

I don't even know where Kanon Wakeshima fell into coz her songs are neither pop nor rock. XD Her songs are like... Gothic? If there's even such a thing, haha!

Ironically, I don't listen to much J-pop female singers. Facepalm But I tend to listen to soundtracks, be it from anime or movies. I have to say my songlist is pretty limited, compared to many who loves the J-fandom. Cry

Yeah, the majority of J-pop is very cutesy though there are still a lot of J-pop artists who can combine their music with other genres like electronica or rock. Personally, I like the cutesy aspect of J-pop. I'm much more into the rock scene but every now and again, the upbeat and cutesy attitude of J-pop artists can be really fun. c:

Lol iTunes says she's pop. She's one of those artists who is just hard to categorize. XD I think she's kind of a blend of a lot of sub-genres to rock and pop. I think one of the sub-pop genres she's considered is "baroque pop". She can also fall under lesser known genres like Neoclassical Dark Wave (her use of a cello puts her under this one) and Dark Ambient, but it's just easier to say she's rock and pop because her music can fit under so many of the sub-genres of the two broader categories.

If you're looking for more artists, Jpopasia is a pretty good site. They cover J-Pop, J-rock, and K-pop. I've found a lot of artists through them. I have a pretty large library of Japanese artists but that's mostly because I've been listening to Japanese artists since I was pretty young. ^^

I like jpop, my favourite is probably Perfume. ^ ^ I need to listen to more stuff, though, considering most music from Asia that I listen to comes from Korea. tehe:
