I recently found out that the university I had been intending on going to (Queen's in Belfast) no longer teaches the subject I want to do XD
So that was rather disheartening. I have no idea where to go now, cause I probably have to stay in Northern Ireland and I don't really want to go to UU.

Does anyone know a good place to get Student Insurance from?

Also, for some reason, this year my college didn't give us the notice of results thing on results day with the exam board header on (not sure that made sense), so I have a list of my grades, and the marks for the modules I took this summer on a paper with the college logo on. I need the notice for my registration, does anyone know if the letter thing the college gave me counts or will I have to chase up the one I described with the exam board stuff on the header?

This seemed like the best place to ask tehe

lmfao I started my personal statement today and it's already a massive disaster. It makes me sound really irritating. At least my grades aren't completely awful.

The five I'm thinking of applying to: York, Lancaster, Chester, Nottingham and either Hull or Edinburgh (not that they're particularly similar, Hull would be more like another back-up choice I think). Mr. Green But apparently I have a while to decide, so yeah.

Does anybody know which Uni's do Gender Studies at undergraduate? I've been looking for ages and everywhere seems to only have them for postgraduate.

Just out of curiosity, what do you want to do with your degree? I think a handful of unis might be offering something along the lines of "sociology/English lit/history with an emphasis on gender studies", but it's really hard to devise a gender studies undergrad programme since it's impossible to study gender itself - you have to study gender in literature/film or the problematic of gender throughout history or I dunno that kind of thing. In any case (that is, even if you just really really want to go into academia) I would advise you to consider doing what I did (i.e. getting a joint honours in something you like that's somewhat more employable and would aid your general study plan) just to make sure that you won't have wasted 3/4 years of your life and a lot~ of money on a degree which albeit fun is utterly pointless (no matter how much I love comparative literature, I love having a nice job and being able to take care of myself just as much). I'm sorry if that sounded rude, I know you probably didn't want to hear all that about getting a degree with a decent employability, but I said it anyway because I had a similar dilemma when I applied to uni, but now I'm happy that I went for English lit (and consequently that I'll be able to teach after I finish school if I decide that's what I want to do) instead of doing classics/philosophy/art history/theology/crazy fun things. Having a backup plan just feels really nice and I can incorporate things I do in English in my comparative lit work - which is really where my heart lies.

I understand what you mean, didn't sound rude. I should have been more clear about it. I'd like to do sociology or english lit with it, but considering I've just started my second year of college and have suddenly decided that what I thought I wanted to do.. isn't.. my subjects aren't what I need, bar one. (I don't think. I'd imagine doing sociology now would be helpful.) Also, I do english language, not english literature, and I've realised that I made a mistake there as well because to do lit at Uni most of the ones I've looked at don't take lang as a substitute for it. I've found a course at Queen Mary in London that focuses on gender in the 3rd year that I'd have a decent chance of getting on with my current subjects, but other than that I think I'm screwing myself over a bit. I'm just not sure, now, that I've chosen the right subjects at all.

Well, technically, I've never done English lit in my life until now (being Romanian, and all, we only do English lang as a foreign language) and I still got in a really awesome English lit programme so I don't think all is lost. You just have to get good grades in the courses you're taking and write a good personal statement explaining (among many others) why you didn't take English lit (or history/sociology).

Arms Don't worry, mine was an incoherent ramble about Sherlock Holmes and Flaubert which I wrote from scratch in one afternoon and I only sent off around Christmas. The fact that I got any offers still surprises me. XD What are you writing about?

I agree, but I wrote it, then I was told that I need to write about non-school books, and I thought I'd covered that with my dissertation books (since I choose them, their not on the curriculum at all) then was told to add some in XD

I'm a bit concerned since everyone else seems to be go waaaaaaay over, yet I'm under 3000 characters!

I was so happy when I got their offer, too. tehe I can't believe how lucky you are, you don't even have exams at the end of the year like I did so you can just lazy about and read until next September. Life's not fair.
