I actually just sent off my application to my referee and didn't include Keele! XD It first looked like it'd be great for me, but I dunno, I ended up not liking it as I got to filling in UCAS.

Awwww, oh well some unis just click better or grow on you, I first applied to Royal Holloway, but later realised that I couldn't be so far away from the city hence I picked QMUL!

Can I ask where you're thinking of going and what you're going to take?

Well I've applied to Cardiff met, Twickenham (St Mary's college), Trinity Saint David, Chester and Rohempton. Creative writing is my main course choice within the five, but most are joint with English. And honestly, if any accept me then I'd be so thrilled.

I graduated from Queen Mary last year. The campus is good for what it is. The fact you can walk the whole of it in about seven minutes from Pooley House to Drapers is nice. Are you on your second year? What course do you study?

Ahh, all really good unis :D I applied to Chester too and thought it looked really good. And Roehamptons in London which is awesome! You're a great writer from what I've read, so no matter where you go it should all be good eh? ;)

Oh, you're in the building with the green geometric shapes on the edge of campus, right? Think that's the geography building at least. I studied Film Studies there, but I go to KCL for post-grad now.

Oh thats the Fogg Building, I've never been in there, but it looks really cool from the outside despite those creepy hissing noises that come from the vents if you walk past it at night Unsure. Actually my lectures are all over the place, Francis Bancroft, G.O. Jones, even the maths building and that's despite the Geog department having its own building behind the Queens Building. Lol

I used to think film was just watching movies all day but I have friends who do film and they say there's a lot of critiquing and essay writing involved. One of them is such a film buff she's sick of my ignorance and decided to fully educate me lol. I'm sure I spent more time watching movies with her than actually doing any work!!

KCL is a cool uni too, I have a couple of friends who go there and say they enjoy it :)

Never heard any weird noises coming from it, but I really only paid mind to it when I had to hop the black gate into campus on weekends when it's locked.

Yeah, that's exactly what everyone thinks. "Oh, it's a blow-off course. You don't actually do any work." I'd say I wrote three to four essays per class each term. Usually two or three sequence analysis papers and one essay topic in addition to the 15,000 word dissertation third year. The thing people don't realise about film is that it's not just, "Here's a movie. Watch it and summarise the surface content." You need to not only know film, you need to know history, culture, society. Just tell your friends to look forward to Images of Otherness in French and Francophone Cinema. mrgun

Yeah, it's quite different from Queen Mary, but the post-grad courses for film are more diverse. I miss my academic tutor, but other than that I've had a really good semester so far.

I mostly applied to Chester because it's sort of halfway between London and halfway between North Wales (think of Bangor uni area) because my dad lives in London and my mum lives in Wales. But yeah, I looked at all their courses and they do seem like really good unis. And thanks, that means a lot. Arms I'm just hoping that whichever unis give me offers and the one I actually choose is good for the next three years of my life.

Ahhh that's well sweet. I moved to London so I could be as far as possible from my fam without leaving UK, not cause I don't like them or anything, just so I could spread my wings a bit. But I'm sure whichever uni you pick, you'll love it. P.S. It's so much more fun when you get stuck in and join a sport/society or go to uni events if you're into that. Only started joining stuff in 2nd year and it's so much more fun!! :D

I was meant to reply to this when I had read it! I want to move away from my family because I'm not one to really be family-obsessed in terms to living close to them, but I'm wary because I feel that if I went to the university furthest away from my mum something will happen to her and after her being diagnosed with cancer in 2007, I feel that it coming back would be the thing that'd happen. It's a really weird worry but I can't seem to shake it.

And yeah, I want to join societies and clubs but I'm really bad at social activities like that. I mean, I went to my sixth form's Dinner Dance last night and spent over two hours sitting at a table and waiting for midnight to hit so that my ride would come. XD

    -

In other news, my referee sent off my application Monday night and I got an offer from Roehampton the following morning, an offer from Cardiff Met Tuesday night and and offer from St Mary's University College on Thursday. I'm am thrilled about this but I have no idea if I'm going to put St Mary's as my first choice or whether Trinity Saint David will be it if they end up giving me an offer! mrgun

Heyy, that's great news and so fast as well!!! A lot of my friends had to wait until Jan/Feb to get their offers, I handed my application the day before the deadline (cause I'm so unorganised when it comes to stuff like that!).

I can see what you mean about worrying, I'm always a little worried because my family are the kind of family who will tell me AFTER they come out of hospital that they had surgery or collapsed or whatever...or I'll end up finding out on fb! It's not like we don't talk, they just omit those parts when I call them.

And it's okay, I used to be like that too, I could barely talk to people, especially not boys for some reason, but I've noticed that I've gradually changed over the first year. At uni I found that I was forced to talk to people and to make conversation so that helped. And I've found that at uni, more people will come up to you and start conversation so yeah.

The way I always see it is that going to uni, I'm not just paying for the degree, cause I could go open university for that, I'm paying for the lifestyle as well, the experience, the opportunity to do 'uni' stuff :D and so far, I don't regret one second of it Thumb up

I know! A lot of people who sent their application off weeks before I did still haven't got offers so I think I'm incredibly lucky to have three so far.

That's like mine! Something actually happened during an operation last year and were we told about it? Nope, not until they were out of the hospital and then it wasn't even by the person we were told but rather someone else, and it wasn't a silly little thing either - they almost died and didn't think to tell us! So I do think a lot of things will just casually slip their minds when talking to me and then I'll go home for a holiday and find out everything and such.

That actually sounds really reassuring, although the whole more people will come up to you and start conversations more. XD I just really am hoping that uni turns out to be the best three years of my life in turns of developing a better personality than I already have, and better means at communicating with people face to face because currently that sucks.

I imagine your best bet might be to contact universities individually and see if any courses will take you. I'm not 100% but I think being older than a 6th form student, you'd apply directly to the institutions, and though I'm not at all certain about this, you might find some of them will consider taking you depending on the flexibility of their entry requirements. I know this is sometimes the case for mature students, which I think anyone over the age of 21 qualifies as? Again I'm not 100% on that.

Also, you said you can't afford to go back and do your A levels, but is there any chance you can afford to take a short course or two with the Open University? (I have no idea how much that would cost though) because some universities might accept those in place of A Levels.

That said, I know that with the Open University don't have formal entry requirements to study for there stuff (it should be all of it, if not it's definitely most of it). If you contact universities and find you can't go and obtain a degree traditionally but still want to, it might be worth giving the OU a look? It might solve your problem of not being able to finish your A Levels but will let you get a degree even if it means not going to university.

Sorry, if this isn't much help. Most people I know either went to uni straight from college or went to the OU when they were older, so those are the only solutions to your problem I can think of :3

I've got all five offers for this September's entry but I'm torn between Bangor Uni and Aberystwyth uni. I've applied for Medieval and Early Modern History at both unis but also applied for History at Bangor, but I'm so uncertain about which to go to. Facepalm Bangor's just over 20 miles away and Aber's just over 2 hours away. Gaaaaaah. Crazy

Thanks for the information. I study at an American university and I can say that in fact the education systems are very similar. I would like to highlight an important feature that unites the two educational systems - academic integrity. With Fixgerald I can successfully check my texts for plagiarism and correct them.
