Right, I'm wondering what types of jobs are available for 14 year olds.

I take surveys on the internet and get little money from that, and I'm not aloud a paper round (My Mam won't let me). I do get money from my parents, but would like to be a bit more independent so wanted to know about the teen job market.

Also, how to go about getting a job? I mean, what exactly do you do? How do you apply? So many questions, so much confusion.

I know alot of other people my age who are unaware of how to get a job at this age. So this may interest quite afew people...

Your mom wont let you do paper rounds? Why not?
Jobs for kids your age is limited, but if you're serious, I'd suggest maybe a fast food place? It's not likely, but you never know. You could also baby-sit or rake leaves in the falls or shovel snow in the winter.

Try day camps. They hire young teens and the pay is very good (probably the best pay a fourteen year old can get). Try going to your local recreational center, they usually have listings of local day camps that are looking to hire for the summer. Some rec centers even do the hiring/training for several camps, so all you really need to do is sign up and then do an interview.

Where do you live? A lot of places won't take 14 year olds. Around me you have to be 15 with a permit or already 16. But camps take younger teenagers. Babysitting is probably your best bet. I hear they get paid a lot.

You can try the camp suggestions, and also, maybe a referee. Where I live, a lot of people around fourteen ref for soccer, basketball, etc.

As suggested above, baby sitting can be very profitable (my one friend can make $100 in a week) and mowing lawns or even walking dogs or animal sitting.

I live in Pontefract, Yorkshire, England.

And I don't know of any kids to babysit, except my many nieces and nephews, of which are beyond my control, seriously, only our Ben's kids do what I say.

And what are these 'camps' that you all speak of? I've never heard of them.

Also, nobody where I live rakes leaves and it never snows. Disgust

Supermarkets! My best friend has worked at one since she was 14.
Her supermarket is absolutely crowded with teens.
Also, you could try applying to be a kitchen hand. I know a few year tens that do that.

Some cafes might take you on as a waitress, or for washing dishes. They used to where I live, but then a lot of places raised the age to 15, and I think they've raised it to 16. But you could always go around asking. They're legally allowed to employ you at 13, so it's the cafe's personal choice not to take you on, but they might if you make a good impression and prove you're not a time waster.

I'm fourteen and I teach swimming lessons on weekends. It's minimum wage, but it's a good job, and it's helping me with my college fund. If you have a community program where you live, you could email the office and see if they have any need of more swimming teachers (in my town, you have to volunteer for eight weeks, and then you are okay to teach). hope this helped.

Do you play an instrument at all? I teach piano lessons to young kids as a job, and it's a good way to make some money!

Where can you take surveys that aren't scams?
I'm in the UK, if it matters.

I might be working at my local library this summer. Try talking to yours and seeing if they have any openings.

Last summer, I also volunteered as a teacher's helper at a local pre-school. Granted, I got pneumonia and ended up going only one day.

I'm not sure if either of those jobs could qualify as paying jobs, because I haven't been excepted at the library and I was just volunteering at the pre-school, but if I were you I'd look into things like that.

Also, if there's a golf course around you could be a caddy.

And like Spaztastic said, summer camps are good as well. I almost was a counselor this year, but I'm not a very big fan of summer heat or seven-through-nine year olds.

    Hope I helped.

About applying; I'm not sure about you because you live in England and I live in the US, but in my state kids 14-15 have to apply for working papers. Try looking up the working paper qualifications for your area.

Try printing flyers advertising a job, and posting them up around your neighbourhood. I'd recommend advertising for dog walking, baby sitting, yard work or doing chores for elderly people.
Put your name and and telephone number on the flyer, and hope for the best!

In the summer it's usually easier to go around offering to clean cars, help clean out garages, babysit :shifty etc as more people want free time. So maybe you could try that when school's over? :cute:

I just sent my cover letter and resume to Elmbrook Humane Society, for the part time animal care taker job. I hope I get it. In Love

Maybe, if you like animals, ask around at a local humane society or pet store. :cute:

Where I live, they allow people 14 & above to work a a fast food place.
Dog walk, babysit... I would ask for a job (like cleaning or dishwashing) at a local cafe or something. If it's local, they may be willing to accept you.
