I generally write in third person from a male character's perspective because that's what's more interesting to me. I live my life every day in a female mindset, so that's a little boring for me to write. Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with men since I grew up without a father and the only male in my life was my older brother, who's a whopping twelve years older than me, but according to the guys in my writing classes, I do a pretty good job of channeling the male mindset.
All in all, I don't think there are a ton of differences between men and women. I think humans are humans, and I don't think it helps anything seem more realistic to try to fit a male character into society's stereotype of how a male should act and what he should like, and the same holds true for women. I believe people are people, and as long as you feel like you
know a character, gender shouldn't matter.
While I am incredibly girly when it comes to fashion, makeup, hair, and all that good stuff, as far as relationships go, I feel like I lean more towards the behaviors and ideals that are stereotypically male. I also love sports, so that doesn't hurt either. I like to joke that I'm the most girly and the most manly person I know
