Single Mothers

what do you think makes a single mother?

A woman who doesn't have the father of her child in her life and is taking care of it by herself or a woman who has the guy in her life but they're not together anymore and are taking care of their child togeher?

personally I think its a woman who is taking care of the child with no help from the father.

My mum is a single mum, she's absolutely AMAZING. My dad is an idiot most of the time, fails to give money on time, doesn't care about us etc. It's not easy on her, she gets barely enough time to herself, and my younger brothers are idiots like all the time.

I agree, a single mother is taking care of the child with no help from the father.

Financially, I would go with the father taking care of the baby with the mother.

What makes a single mother? For a long period of time, it was just my mom, my brother and me. Before she met my step-father, of course.

She was very caring. She focused all her love on us. She was never mean with us. She was so sweet and she was supporting of everything we did. She spent every cent she made on making both my older brother and I happy.

She was amazing. I actually admit I miss those days, lmfaao.

A single mother is just a woman who raise a child on her own. It means nothing if they're on child benafit, becos' that is hardly anything. We get £20 a month off my dad. So, ya know, and in England fathers have to pay child benafit, but most don't. :grr:

Child Support in my opinion does not count because often the amount is nothing but pocket change, it does not come on time so it is not dependable, or it is not coming at all.

I think a single mother is when she has a child with the father, but he doesn't have any contact with either of them.

^ Agreed. Any situation where the mother is raising her child/children on her own without any emotional support from the father of the children, basically.

I've always thought the term 'single mum' applied to mothers who have separated from the father of her children and no longer lives with him. He can still see them and pay child support, but mum and dad just aren't living under the same roof -shrug-

Mum's who are looking after their children who live under their roof, doesn't matter if the dad is involved or not. The word "single" means not in a relationship I take it literally.
Not to mention widowed mums too.

My dad doesn't do shit, but my mom does everything. He's supposed to pay child support, but he doesn't.

I have to agree with you completely. My father doesn't even care that I exist and has never been in my life at all.

My two aunts were single mothers for a few years. They raised their children while (I think) getting child support and the kids would go with their fathers on weekends.

Well let's see I've never met mydad and it has been me and my mom for the past eighteen years; Myfather never made the attempt to find me after my mom left him... he is just DNA or as my friends like to joke, the milk man.

And my mom has had boyfriends but nothing long lasting, and she has never been engaged or married... so my mom is a single mom.

A single mother for me is one heck of a hard-working person. Taking care of her child and doing her job to support her job and all. Oh, I wish that they could award these kinds of persons, the award for "most-hard working". But, it's just in my opinion though. There are some single mothers who just leave their children or something. :shifty

Although I think it's important to note that mothers everywhere - regardless of marital status - work hard, as do fathers. Parenting is difficult and I dare say it's not a walk in the park even if you have a partner.
