What Ethnicty Are Your Characters?

Josephine Langston Tiller : She's a mixture of native american and caucasian, so her skin has a slight tan. So she has brown hair and dark brown eyes.

Pierce Adam LeGall: Pierce is caucasian and polish.

Ansley Andrew Dochman: Andrew is full on caucasian.

Donovan Patrick Miller: He's african american and italian.

In my novel I plan to post soon, Michael and his twin sister Miranda are half Native American (the tribe is never specified). Michael has a lot of the features but Miranda just looks like a really tan white girl.

My first story, Oh Look, Another Arranged Marriage, kinda has Caucasians since that was most of what I have been reading on here.

Filling the Void also had Caucasians since a pumkin needed to be in the story, and we don't have pumkpins where I'm from.

These: Darlene's Fairytale, Learning Italian, and Remnants have Filipinos! :D It's easier for me since I am one, but it makes me a little self-conscious, wondering if other people will understand it okay.

For Daddy's Girl, I had Filipinos in mind, but they can be anyone at all. :)

Mine are pretty much all European. It varies though between different countries, but I think what I have most is English people. And Irish. Why? They're accents ^^
But my main character for my current story is French, and the two other primary characters are Russian and Irish.
In the same story, I've got: English virtuoso, Italian sword-swallower, Spanish brat and then my lovely Austrian.

My characters used to always be white. i think a lot of that stemmed from the fact that i was writing what i knew (because while i'm mixed, my family is very much white-washed), but also because i found white people to be the most attractive. Recently that's changed. I stopped creating characters, and started letting them come to me when they wanted to, and now my characters are an eclectic variety.

My characters are always white, and I think that is mainly because I tend to base their looks off people I know. The majority of my school is white, with the exception of maybe three people, and that's probably why.

It's also because I mainly only write fanfiction, and most of the people I write about are white.

When it comes to fanfiction, they're usually true to their nationality. They are usually white for the most part.

In my original stories, I don't really define. It's whatever the reader wants to imagine, I guess. Sometimes, if family tradtion is important, I'll mention it. I have an unposted one shot where the family is Cuban.

I make my characters Mexican or white.

Mexican because I'm Mexican and I rarely ever see any Mexican characters unless the author is Mexican.

BUT I also make a lot of them White, or I don't say specific ethniciety I just describe how they look. Why?

Because it's a little bit true that readers will stop reading a story if they can't identify with the character, or if they had a certin image of the character and then it totally changed because of their race. So to avoid that I sometimes don't specify ethniciety.

And white is what the majoriety of readers identify with I think at least. This is from what I have experienced sorta I'm not really placeing labels.

I guess it's a scaredy cat reason for me to not make my characters raciely diverse all the time. Or for me to be hesitant to make a character Mexican but idk I'm a scardey cat like that.

White the whole time. This is becasuse ever since fourth grade everytime i write a story my friend-like-aquantice-who-i-am-on-bad-terms-with-right-now's face just kind of shows up in my head and i always make my charecters look like her, even when i try to make them look diffrent i still think of them as looking like her so youualy i just make them look like her. although she changes her look alot, so it usualy whichevcer look i think is right for that particular charecter.

I love making my characters diverse.
It's not really apparent on mibba but I have a bunch of stories on my computer and they're all of different cultures, races, ethnicties, etc.
I want to read more stories with different races.
It just seems more like a broad and open-minded idea to me and I'm not sure why.
Most of the time I make my characters the same race as me.
Which is Japanese but I have written a lot of other races too.

My original characters are typically white, but not on purpose.
I guess that becaue I'm white I just find automatically write stories about other caucasian people. I've written about people of other races before and those stories went along just find, so it's not like I have any aversion.
I just don't really think much about race when I'm developing a character, but then when I start writing them, they automatically become a caucasian to me unless I'd previously planned them to be something else.

This is pretty much how I write too. I don't think about it, unless it's a big part of the story.

- Damien is half-English. Born in Yorkshire, England. Caucasian
- Avery and Andrea are technically America. Born in the Nassau, Bahamas. [Conceived in America, born in the Bahamas. Twins] Caucasian with a slight tan.
- Samantha is a quarter Russian. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Caucasian, but very tan.
- Cecily is Italian. Born in Sicily, Italy. Caucasian, but very tan.
- Roma and Peter are Italian. Born in Florence, Italy. [Twins] Caucasian.

In my new fanfic, Take It With Me, my main female character is half Spanish. Her mother is full blooded Spanish, and her father is Caucasian.

For my orginal stories, my characters are of every race and ethnicty. My race is black, and I'm mixed with a lot of ethncites. If I'm not writing fanfiction my character is going to be black, and of every shade too. But rarely do I ever put race in my stories, most of the time it's not important.

For the one I'm planning now, all the major characters are white, but that's simply because of the setting and time period. There's maybe one minority and he's killed off in the first few paragraphs....

With an original story that I'm writing now, my main character is Russian, living in America.
And in another story I've written, both mains are Japanese, living in Japan.

Even though my story on mibba is very limited as its set in a small english town where different ethnic people are never seen the story I'm planning to send to a publisher has such a wide range of ethnic types due to be set in an Australian city, which is known for being multicultural. I just go for whatever suits the setting instead of just forcing tokens into for the sake of tokenism.

In my story set in Australia there are twin Greeks, a boy descended from a mixture of Hispanic and native central American but raised in Canada, a half Saudi Arabian that was born in Australia, a Maori boy, a Korean boy, a boy who is half African half Russian, two siblings of Japanese ethnic but raised in Indonesia, a half Japanese half Thai girl raised in Tokyo, a boy from china, two aboriginal woman, a half aboriginal boy, Israeli girl and a Vietnamese man.

So yeah, even though my mibba story may not be multi-cultured that is purely reflective of the real place it is set.

I don't dwell on race much because ethnicity is the background of the story sometimes. Through it does bother me a little that there isn't that much diversity, but then again writers write what comes to them. So when one focus on race too much they make it obvious that they're trying too hard and tend to let the story run away from them.

In the my newest story, my character Abbey is Greek and Mexican, which I totally only did because I pretty much love Greek and Mexican food. There's so much more to the foods of both those heritages than gyros and tacos.
