It's just like the character developement thread, except that it's for the scenery; I came up with this for my writing attention forum just to help my members develope their stories:

You can answer in "" or just as a thrid-person point of view, but I strongly recommend you to answer it in the point of view from which you are writing your story (after all, that's what you need to develope your story)

    For example:
    Quote
Question/Request: Describe your main character's room in detail.
    My answer would be:
    Quote
Answer 1: Alanis (aka Vala) had a whole apartment to herself. She'd sleep at night with the curtains drawn open, so that every morning at dawn, the light could pour in from the wide window at her bedside...
Because I write from this point of view in my story.

You could also answer by extracting a content from your story...
    Quote
Answer 2: Alanis Elizabeth-May Leighton had the covers of her bed all tangled up under the nudity of her body, exposing her to the cool breeze of the airconditioner... Nine AM, light was already pouring in through the grand windows, giving the her apartment the best view of New York's buildings.
OFF-TOPIC: I don't know if these kind of threads have ever been made, but this idea came to me because I often see a lack of scenery description in stories. A lot you might probably think it's useless, but well... it's worth a try Dance

I like this... I am going to start with the question you used for your example.
    :)

Kylie May Horton's room is about the size of a small living room. It looks even smaller than it really is because it is a complete and total mess. Clothes are strewn everywhere, as are magazines, and loose papers. Her desk is cluttered with books, papers, notebooks and a large desktop computer that is out-dated. Her walls are covered with posters and art projects, her mirror - one that is above her dresser - is also covered in pictures of her with her friends. Her bed, which is never made, is white with purple spots and the sheets and pillow covers are purple.

Mary's town is small, quiet, and peaceful, just the way she likes it. Every weekend when she goes outside in the ungodly hours of the morning to get the mail, she'll look at all the houses, square, in neat little lines. Her town was the epitome of suburbia, but she'd like to think it was just a bit warmer, and just a bit closer. She was very close to her neighbors, when she was younger her Mom would throw big backyard Barbeque's. She remembered playing with her small friends, running around the back round with the smell of hamburgers in the air. She looks out the window, every morning, to watch the sunrise, an indescribable scene to her, as it just peeks over the line of houses across the street, all the different shades of orange, red and pink make her wish she were an artist, instead of a writer.

I have to use this! :cheese:

Eve doesn't need a car in the town she currently lives in. She's staying in her friend's mother's beach house in Myrtle Beach, so there's a small community just off of the beach. Eve usually uses an old bicycle she found in the basement of the house to get around if she ever needs to.

Is there a place your character likes to go to be alone? If so, describe it.

(Thanks for making this, it was a really good idea! Good job!)

The rooftop of the Headquarters is really the only place where Vincent can go to collect his thoughts anymore. It's quite large and bare with merely a medium-sized doorway leading back down to the hustle and bustle of the New World's warstricken life to deal with making much of a difference. There are some chairs that were brought up there some time ago, but no one's ever really used them. If Vincent needs to sit, he sits on the concrete. There aren't any railings, and if there were, they collapsed during the night of the Virus. On the rooftop, one can see over much of the city, faintly seeing the ocean and a little strip of the beach. And then the sky and bridges and clouds and for a little bit, everything is nearly peaceful to Vincent.

It depends on where Jackie Flores is at the time. His band, No Man's Land, tours quite a bit. When he is away from home, he's likely to fall asleep in one of the cramped bunks housed in the tour bus they managed to get. (A step up from the van they once traveled in.) It's usually dark, and never any silence to be had; the bus roaring over the highway makes everything vibrate and sometimes makes him queasy, and the snoring of his bandmate, Taffy White, keeps him up. In the dark, sometimes he can still see the pictures he always decorates his bunk with; family photos tacked upon the long wall and upon the ceiling, smiling friends and relatives there to say goodbye to him at night, and greet him in the morning. Those pictures mean a lot to him, and he could never travel without them.

When he is home, he has his room and the belongings that fill it to see before he goes to sleep. The backyard porch light is always on at night, and it casts a lot through one of his windows - it's never completely dark in his room, even when he shuts the thick and navy-blue curtains. Posters from old movies and obscure bands grace gray-painted walls, and various knickknacks, from oddly-colored pebbles to comic book figurines and exotic-looking alcohol bottles, mostly gathered from his years on the road with his band, stand on the many shelves bolted into the walls. A keyboard with a leather cover over it stands solitary in the corner, and his sliding closet doors are always open, revealing a lengthy selection of suits and dress shirts, while an astounding number of shoes takes up almost the entirety of the closet floor.

Above him, watching him from atop the headboard of his bed, is a lone Oscar Wilde "action figure." Sometimes, it's the first thing he sees when he wakes up.

What was home / house / building in which your character grew up in like? Describe it (or them).

Rows of building were piled neatly, but the garden, in contrast to those buildings, were a complete mess. Everything was almost like a forest; bugs and insects roamed the badly kept soil, dog waste could be found in the childrens playground, yet Emilia never cared for those things.

She didn't have her own room... well, she did, but given the quite, gray wallpaper and carpet, she was always scared to sleep by herself. Instead, she'd stay in her parent's brownish-red furnished room, with the perfect Queen sized bed and cool airconditioning.

In the morning, she'd play the bright green livingroom, either by jumping up and down the sofas or typing random words on the computer's keyboard. That was her home.

Which place does your character go to when all is not well? Describe (do note that it doesn't exactly have to be a "place" )

Isla walks through the high streets, surrounded by the beautiful blinding lights from the buildings above. She tends to go when it's late, when the only people around are the ones falling out of pubs and the girls in pratically there underwear. She won't talk to anyone, but she's the sortof person that if she passes a homeless person on the gum ridden floors, in the bitter cold, she'll leave them some change from her coat pocket. It's not like she really goes anywhere partically, but just wandering in a non-stop city makes her lose control of herself, and lets her forget the troubles she's facing.

Thomas Elliot High School is a large school that has over 3000 students. The front of the high school is separated into two areas, on the left side is the teachers parking while the right is parking for students and parents. The back side of the school is three acres what is surrounded by a fence. A football field and metal bleachers sit as far back away from the school as possible while the rest is used for extra curricular activities and a commons area.
There are three doors at the front of the school, the first door on the left is one that leads into the cafeteria the middle leads to the front office and the third is to a long hallway with lockers and classroom doors. The entire school's flooring and walls are the exact same way (with the exception of the Gym) is a checkered black and white terrazzo tile floor and bright white walls.

There's not much grass, just a bunch of little patches that is sometimes littered with blue wildflowers and dandelions. There's a rusty chain-link fence along the boundary line between our backyard and the neighbor's. There's one tree that suprisingly isn't dead and Angie's old trampoline. It's still standing and you can jump on it, but she doesn't use it anymore, so I like to lay on it.

Eve likes to take walks along the beach almost every day. She has nothing else to do while she's in Myrtle Beach. Her walks end at the old pier with a pavilion built on at the end. The wood is bucked and splintered, and the railing's not too trustworthy, but Eve likes it there. She goes there to collect her thoughts, rain or shine. It's where she found her plastic star. (<-- If you read, you'll find out why it's important.)

Different places for different situations and emotions, dear... Seriously, I could never be on the same place twice... it grows old and it gets weary. But if I was to choose, and only in a life threatening situation, I would say anywhere near a person who pretty much makes no sense.

Barely any time 'ad passed since the bells, when Ewing spotted the land off the starb'd deck, just a smudge, but already we were moored and, bein' the watch what spotted the land, we was on leisure first. It was strange, bein' back on steady land, no matter how familiar the port. Least I warn't the only one havin' troubles with me sea legs; all us crew was swaggerin' around like true sailors with that gait associated with rollin' waves and beached seamen.

Alanis wouldn't have come here in the first place if Karen hadn't made her. Yes, she had been going to here ever since she was fifteen and had looks that qualified for an eighteen year old.
Red and blue lights evaded the dance floor, the music booming in everyone's ears, as pretty young teenager girls shook their hips and raised their arms in the air as men from the bar drool over them. The whole place was dark except for the dance lights, but still, it was darker than any normal dance club... concealing the club's dirtiest secrets in the mist of blackness of the corridors at each end.

Hadley is always in one room. Just that one room. It's dark, there's not much, and he never leaves this room. (This is really hard to describe because it's a play, it's a staged set.)

Eve's current residence has a kind of calming atmosphere. It's almost too calm, almost depressing. But Eve likes it that way. She likes it to be where she can retreat into her mind and not care about a thing.

Before his daughter's drowning, Parker would venture into the sea by boat. The rocking of the waves calmed him. After the incident, he would go for a run and stop wherever his feet take him. He never really went to the same place twice because he became scared of memories, so to speak, so he didn't want to revisit any place.

There's a small pond near Willow's current residence. It's surrounded by all these weeping willows, and when it rains the pond looks all gray and sullen. A fog forms above most of the time, but little lily pads appear on the surface during the summer making the pond look inviting, except you can't swim in it. There are a few fishes, but the water looks green, thanks to the plants and algae under the water.
