I lived in Canada for about half my life, then moved to America.
I must say, when I first moved I hated it... a lot. I noticed all the differences, and I didn't like it one bit. But, I've gotten used to it, but I still miss Canada, and I try to visit as much as often.

My friends and stuff joke about me being Canadian, and I just make fun of them using stereotypical information about Americans.

There always call Canada the 51st state just to piss me off.

    Us Canadians always apologize :P

we are taught to say zed" at the end of the alphabet instead of "Zee"

We NEVER say restroom, we say bathroom

We are very mixed in culture and taught to celebrate our diverseness.

That's all I can think of at the moment...

I love this place! We still call soda "pop".

    Naughty
I like the way 'pop' sounds better than soda.

    ____

I love being a Canadian. Me and friends make fun of Canadian stereotypes sometimes.
    My epic friend Mitchell:
"Hello, eh. Did you watch the hockey game last night, eh? I watched it but I could see the end of it because my igloo started to melt and got into the maple syrup pancakes I was eating while petting my beaver, eh? Now I have nothing to feed the moose and I'm really sad about that, eh?"

Basically Americans have devised some steryotypes about their upstairs neighbor, Canada, based on generilizations. Like, because we have three provinces where there is lots of snow apparently all of Canada is a tundra. And we all say "eh" after every sentance and having maple-syrup in a house is as common as indoor plumbing.

I never really understood why. From where I am, America is not really far away and apparently the world changes when you cross the border.

There are stereotypes against Americans too, it isn't just Canadians getting the crapstick end of the situation. Canadians are always supposed to be hockey loving, syrup sipping, funny talking, igloo builders who ride "aboot" on their moose. Americans are always supposed to be obnoxious, fat, lazy, and stupid. I wouldn't think there is much of a difference between Americans and Canadians, considering most of us sound alike, there's a huge hockey following in the US, and everyone loves pancakes.

Don't you be trash talking my igloo! I'll set my polar bear loose on you, eh!

So, yeah, I'm Canadian. I've been to America and I've dated an American for about five years. In my opinion, the biggest differences come down to politics. Sure, there are some subtle other differences but that's not what sets us apart. I could start listing all of the different spellings, vocabulary and stereotypes but at the end of the day we're all watching the same TV.

For the people outside of the USA and Canada, our relationship is pretty much just a fun rivalry... In which Canada kicks ass. Canucks FTW.

The milk thing is so true. tehe

I have this one friend who's American. He's still mad that I don't say "aboot" and thus, can't make fun of me. I do make it a point to write the letter "u" where it should be. File I wasn't born Canadian (do I still count? XD) ,but I'm damn proud to be one. Mr. Green

A lot of the time, I meet people who didn't even know Canada existed. Facepalm It's like we're aliens. OMFG People hear my accent and think I'm American, but I'm quick to correct them. Snob

PS: I actually don't think either one is better than the other, but I'd pick Canada over US any day. Lick

Free healthcare? Ketchup/Salt and Vinegar/Dill Pickle chips? Smarties? (the candy coated chocolate, that is). Justin Bieber?

I'm pretty proud to be a Canadian (okay except maybe the Bieber part), but I can't really say I harbor any negative feelings towards Americans in general, but I am known to crack a few jokes here and there. People should try to be less sensitive about their cultures and learn to laugh at themselves.

We call those rockets in Canada. Canadian smarties are basically M&M's but they taste a little different.

Edit: The American President's AMA on Reddit, I'm jealous. I wish all world leaders were that awesome.

lol, I live in small town Wisconsin and we're practically southern Canada: everyone wears flannel, we're drunk a lot of the time and kids sit at the bar with us, there are moose crossing signs, and we don't pronounce our th's (ie: you know dat whatchamacallit down da road..?) but we're very accepting people that apologize often and are taught to behave ourselves :)

When I was in Canada,at the grocery store, we asked for American cheese and they gave us this weird look and they had to ask the manager and he didn't know. Apparently, in Canada, American cheese is called canadien cheese. Very Happy
