I have to thank Lestat for telling me there was going to be a TV series for these books.
So, I've watched the trailers, read what LJ Smith had to say about it on her blog, and talked to some friends about the whole thing. In all honesty... I'm not sure how I feel about this whole thing. I am kind of wishing that it was not being made into a television series.
Let me explain. I feel like it's going to stray away from the book a lot. That's the problem with television series that are based off of books. There is absolutely no way you can keep them in chronological order unless you want one episode to be filled and packed with action and the next to be slightly boring with viewers falling asleep. I mean, look what happened to Gossip Girl - that (also presented by the CW) strayed far from the original order of the books. And already we can see the Vampire Diaries straying from the book - Elena doesn't even have blonde hair. Which may seem like a small problem, but it's a problem that's easily fixed but was not.
I feel like these books should have stayed books to help keep their original value and purpose. I feel like if they absolutely had to do something with the books, a movie would've been better because that way it easier to keep the general plot of the story, and it would not be as choppy and confusing. And, just to point it out: LJ Smith, author of the books, said that she, too, did not like the idea of it becoming a TV series in her blog.
Regardless of all of this, I think I will watch it for the sake of seeing how it comes out. But now I'd like to know about your opinions. What do you think - should they have bothered? Like the idea of a TV show, or hate it?
Like I said earlier... there are some books that should be left alone and stay books - not movies, TV dramas... anything - for the sake of keeping them with the value they began with. I think that this is one of those cases.
