Types of Characters That Annoy You

  • Stereotypical 'emo' teenagers of either gender. For that matter, stereotypical anything

  • What annoys me are those characters - mostly female but there are some male too - that rebel. I mean, they don't get caught or get punished. It's like they can tell their parents to f*uck off without at least getting slapped or grounded. It just annoys me to no end.

  • ^ Agreed. Although I say that to my parents when I' angry, I don't get slapped or grounded. I sometimes say it jokingly, but when I'm in a real mood they ignore it. (As they should, I am a horrible daughter. Sad)

As much as that made me laugh, I'm totally agreeing.
    tehe
I also don't like soppy, pushover characters. 'You broke my heart, BUT I LOVE YOU.'
And I don't like characters who have an infatuation with a band member who's their best friend. They fall in love, their first time is amazing and they have zillions of babies. Bah!

  • Damsels in distress.
Feminine guys when it's not inteded.
    Immature teenagers.
    Scene/HardxCore kids.

  • ^ I know that scene/HxC kids are supposed to be a big thing now, but it really doesn't work out for me. A majority of the stories include them, ughh.. I hate it.

  • I hate little kid characters, actually.
Especiawwy when tey tawk wike tis.

  • - The character that's always helping everyone.
    - The "woe-is-me" character. I'm getting so sick of them. Wah, wah, wah, your life sucks so bad, you're hurting inside. We get it. There are too many of these.
    - The pseudo-intellectual character. The author tries to make them appear smart or snarky, but fails.

  • I hate it when they make the female characters sound so incredibly stupid, and naive. Naive is okay to a point, but not when the author makes them sound so stupid. It irritates me. Or I hate it when the main character can do everything perfectly, has lots of friends, and absolutely no flaws.

  • I hate it when every kid in the story is emo\scene and they're all gay and their all cool and stuff. At my school there are hardly any emo/scene kids, just a couple but you don't see them very much.

Oh and jocks who are mean to every geek, nerd and emo. I mean not every single one of them is a complete jerk.

Well, there are some people who don't get grounded or slapped. I'm saying this of my own experience.
Some parents simply chose to ignore it or y'know talk to the kid instead.

  • I hate the giant mobs of sensitive sweet, insecure teenage boys. They're everywhere!
What happened to "guys thinking about sex every 7 seconds"? xD
Duh, there are guys who are nice and not perverted or immature. But if you go to school and look at all the boys in your class, chances are there's going to be little, if any, who are similar to the personalities you find in some of the stories here.

Opposite goes for gay guys. They all seem to be sweet and nice here o_e Homosexuals can be assholes, too.

I agree with that! I don't see anyone like that in my class. I mean, some jocks can be a jerk, but not everyone is full of themselves like they are portrayed.

Another stereotype I hate is when they portray homosexuals so ridiculously flamboyant. I understand some of them are like that (take my cousin for example :D) but not all of them.

We have a heap of emo/scene kids at my school, but I do get the thing about jocks and whatever. We don't have 'jocks and preps' but we do have the cool kids and stuff, and like, half the cool kids are the scene kids at my school. :/

  • the stereotypes, sluts, girls who don't stand up for themselves in situations where they really need to, girls who won't shut up when they need to, the jonas brothers, the girls who do nothing but whine and cry when they get dumped by their boyfriends, ect.
    December 29th, 2009 at 09:33am
  • Please, no offense meant, but I really seriously hate the whiny, self-pitying females who end up with the main guy, even when the guy had a girlfriend that is 100 times more sane/funny/sweet/better suited for the guy.

I know it probably happens in real life, but it just... bothers me. Again, I don't mean to offend anyone. XD

And when the characters have too many flaws. Their life sucks, they've been raped, they drink, they smoke. We get it. Your life is shit. It's kind of unrealistic to me when nothing good has ever happened to them in their entire life.
    December 30th, 2009 at 06:47pm
  • I hate characters that smoke. Especially when they're only, like, thirteen and they're like my Mom/Dad/Big Brother smoked, so now I do. That's esentially saying their character has zero free will, but usually at the same time they're "stubborn" and "rebellious". Ew.

I also can't stand 'nonconformist' characters. You know, the ones that are so nonconformist that they have to tease their hair and wear Hot Topic, and everything else. But they're totally individuals and unique.

    --

Last, I hate characters that are super confrontational. They usually fit into the mold of the kind of character I just mentioned. A cheerleader or teacher can ask them how their day's going, and they'll be like "None of your business, bitch!"

    I hate those.

  • At first, as I looked through this topic, I was almost devestated to see how many people don't like female characters. It had me all freaked like, 'If they read my stories, would they just hate my girl characters?' xP

And then I realized: I'm soooo guilty of hating the girl characters. In movies, stories, just anything. But I know the reason why: I end up really liking the guy character that they fall in love with, and once they do, I just hate her because she just stole my man. Haha! xD

Though I'm not like that in real life. If a guy I like gets a girlfriend, no prob, I like tons of guys. If a male character in a story gets a girlfriend, I'm just standing there, really pissed off. (I get over it within an hour or so, hehe.)

My only exception: the girl characters I make. Probably because if it makes me angry, I have the power to smite her with lightning. XD

  • I hate boring, two dimensional characters
    December 31st, 2009 at 09:47pm
  • I hate weak female characters. Not female characters, just weak ones that are so reliant on their male significant others for every little thing.
