Reading.

  • fool's paradise:
Ever since I was little my teachers always used the term 'avid reader'. It annoyed them, actually, how much I read. I didn't pay attention in class and rather focused on my book. It would insult them and make them think I find the class boring. Was that true? Sort of. But it was really more the fact I was DYING to know what would happen next.

I'm such a dork. I recorded down all of the books I read last school year. I read quite a few, too... I can't remember how many, but a lot of classics, which became my friends. Cuckoo's Nest... Notre Dame de Paris... some really great ones.

I actually haven't read any book at all this summer, though... I keep urging my mom to take us to the library, but she always goes "Okay," and then it never happens. Disgust

I still need to at least get my summer reading book down. I also wanted to read Lord of the Flies before I have to start it this year so I can be ahead in the assignments.

Ah well. I'll remind her right now. I can read pretty quickly, so I'm sure I can get at least three done by the end of the month. Maybe four.

kafka's comment reminded me that I wanted to read some more of him, as well. I really did enjoy The Metamorphosis...
I always lose lists with books I've read, that's why I got a goodreads.com account. :XD

Read Kafka's short stories or The Trial, Amerika and The Castle are kindof boring. :/

Does anybody read a book and love it and then start reading anything they can find by that author for a while? Wow

  • ^ I do that a lot. :tehe:
I buy one book, read it, love it and then go and buy like three of the authors' other books. :XD

Also, I used to do that in school as well. I'd always get shouted at for reading in class and not paying attention. ):

  • I do it too - or I try. As soon as I read Choke by Palahnuik I was eager to get my hands on as much of his stuff as possible. :XD

I tend to read pretty much all the time. But compared to the amount of time I spend reading, I don't actually own that many books and so unless I borrow from freinds or pop into the city library when I'm there, I tend to re-read stuff over and over. Usually Harry Potters. :tehe:

  • I love reading. It's a way to get out of this world and into a nicer one, or into a worse one, which makes you feel better.

  • I'm always reading either a book or here online. I use to spend about 8 hours a night on here everynight, lately it's less as I'm reading books or writing quite a bit so I'm spending a few hours on here a night if that.

  • I love reading. I'm hoping to read some decent books this summer, I've nearly finished The Perks of Being A Wall Flower.
I'd recommend it for sure, it's a point of view that pretty much everyone can empathise with/relate to. :con:

  • I think it's safe to say that everyone on mibba loves, or at least likes, reading. :XD

I've told myself to read a lot of books this summer. Well, a lot for my standards, anyway. It's gone alright so far.

  • I read like a 3 hundred page book in under two hours if I don't watch out
I cleared 3 books yesterday between lunch and dinner :lmfao

So readings gone from a hobby to jsut ick for me

I still do it because I love immersing myself in stories

But seriously I need bigger books or distractions from them :lmfao

I also love anything fantasy and right now Brian Jacques is my favourite authour, but none of the Flying Dutchman series, all Redwall, afgain, like when I was eight :tehe:

I love Chuck Palahniuk. I just finished Invisible Monsters. I don't think it was as good as it was acclaimed to be, though.
My favorite by him is Rant, I loved that book.

Other than that, I really liked Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli… even though it's kind of a kids book. :tehe:
I agree with you. I started reading it and got halfway through. I couldn't seem to get into it. Not like Diary. Diary kept me focused on that and only that. Invisible Monsters didn't seem to appeal to me as much, even though Ryan Ross portrayed it excellently in "Time to Dance."
Ha, I know. The whole time I was reading it I just kept thinking of that song.

Same here with Palahniuk, except for me it was with Rant. None of his other stuff has been as good as that, in my opinion, but I haven't read everything…

I've read the Harry Potters over seven times. :tehe:

    Ohmygoodness, that book is amazing.
I definitely recc it as well In Love Although it did annoy me how often the main character cried. :XD

I love reading, I'm taking English Lit and at sixth form induction my teacher was basically like, "If you don't like to read, then you might as well leave right now."

I'm currently reading the collected works of Ernest Hemingway (and I love it) and Oranges aren't the only fruit by Jeannette Winterson - and attempting to read some for the reading challenge but my local library is rubbish!

I love the Redwall series! I only have five or six of them, but my boyfriend has an additional eight so I might have to steal them from him when he goes off to university. :tehe:

    Which ones do you have?

I have like all 20 or however many there are and gave Ryan my spares :tehe:
Though apparently the one coming out in February is the last and I'm gutted ._.

  • I adore Chuck Palahniuk.
From Invisible Monsters and Fight Club to Lullaby and Haunted, I love all his books.

I've read American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis about twenty times, and I never get tired of it.

My favourite time to read is late at night, when everyone else is asleep :tehe:

  • Ahh, reading.

    In Love

The most recent book I've read was Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List.
But whenever I run out of books to read,
I spend at least 24 hours completely devoted to an extra Long Frerard.
I'm completely sucked into it until I'm finished, too.
Then I go down to Walden Books, or Barnes & Noble and Buy Some more!

Lately though, I've been buying too many...
    That can get spendy...
that's where the secondhand bookstore comes in.

Life wouldn't be complete with out reading.

I'm trying to stop myself from going into a bookstore until a book I absolutely need comes out (the next time is August twenty-fifth for Tricks and Blood Promise) and after that I'm going to try not to go in until I go birthday shopping in late September.

And I completely agree with your last comment.

  • I read basically everything...but
My favorite books are the Sherrilyn Kenyon dark-Hunter series. Those I can re-read a million times and it doesn't get boring.

Also the black dagger brotherhood series. I finish the books too quick though, especially if I have nothing to do.
I read everywhere, on my bed, while I'm eating, in class ignoring the teacher. On a bus, in a car. Everywhere.
