It's related to the entrance fee only if you think someone is maliciously hosting contests solely for the purpose of getting comments without any intent to judge, which I don't think most people do, when you look at the effort they put into creating the contest in the first place.

^ I think that is a problem, though I don't know how big it is either ("most" sounds like a lot). I think that happens for a lot of reason but I don't think trying to cheat others out of comments is one of them.

I've actually had very little experience with people not-judging contests I've entered (I really only remember one instance, and that was with a member who left Mibba) and even then I kind of felt like eh about it. The story I wrote for that contest ended up blooming into a whole series that I really enjoy writing and leading me to a new style of narrative that I love exploring.

Whatever the reason though, while I understand that it can be frustrating (I've been on that end before), it's never really bothered me before because I know that I got some writing out of it. At the end of the day, for me, whether or not a contest is judged doesn't change the fact that I was able to complete a story (which is generally why I join contests, when I do). I mean, Mibba's great and all, but there's not much - prize-wise - Mibbians can offer each other. To me, the best benefits of joining a contest is getting the motivation to actually write.
Yeah same. There's been a few contests I've joined that haven't been judged and though it peeves me for a moment, I can either a) get upset, b) pester the user, or c) accept and move on and be happy that I wrote a piece that hopefully wasn't terrible. And I agree, I don't often claim prizes in contests I join anyway, and I don't mind if I don't really get them, you know? My ego gets a boost if I win but the prizes are like, meh, ok, comment if you want. x]

I'm also guilty of discontinuing a few contests, but usually it's because a) something shitty has happened in my personal life and I couldn't care less whether or not someone on Mibba is going to get annoyed with me or b) barely anyone entered. Even then I try to comment at least on the entries I've got.

Exactly. That's like people hosting comment swaps solely to cheat others - it doesn't really happen that often as far as I know.

The original comment was simply the issue that some people had a contest fee and that it was catching on. Now it has stemmed into a big discussion that includes so many different things, including the not judging and not handing out prizes issue.
This is a board called "discussion". We discuss things here. That's what has always happened and this is what will continue to happen. If you didn't understand that before coming on, I can see how 2/3 pages of dialogue might unnerve you, but I can guarantee you it's not an attack and that's just how we discuss things in the discussion threads.

I wish there were more active members that were older. This is not a slam against younger members, who have every right to exist on this site in the numbers they do. But we are pitifully outnumbered. XD

(This is solely for my selfish reasons of wanting to have a larger community of people who could discuss living out of your parents house and all the shit that accompanies it, as well as the way relationships change when you get older. Mibba was always my source of community for the answers to questions I needed, but more and more I feel like no one really relates to the problems I'm going through.)

The Joint Stories thread, just because it's gotten kind of obnoxious with people reposting their story ideas over and over and adding ridiculous gifs and whatnot. I'm sorry, but if no one is interested in your idea, reposting over and over or adding a huge gif that makes it take ten times longer for the page to load isn't really going to make anyone any more interested Facepalm

If I can be completely honest, I hate journals with the word 'suicide' in the title 9/10 times.

That's against the rules as far as I know. Or, well, I don't think it's officially against the rules right now, but I know a rule was added to RP recruiting thread that pictures larger than 100x100px had to be linked and any picture used had to be directly related to the roleplay, so I imagine a similar rule for the joint stories thread will follow. It's considered spamming.

    dru is a wild thing.:
I hate that there is now going to be an unfiltered anon spot for people to shit on other Mibbians. I hate that people on Mibba could do that to each other.
Agreed. I love when people get bitter about mibba and they make a fuss instead of just leaving.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's not considering people post gifs in threads in General all the time just 'cause they get the top post on a page or whatever, but I do think the rule in RP threads should be applied to the rest of the forums because it is spam.

When people post requests in the Writing Prompts thread Facepalm Detailing what genre, type, ending, whathaveyou you want someone to write with a prompt is not a prompt, it's a request. I always thought that a prompt was just for inspiration and that whoever used it was entitled to do whatever they wanted with it XD

I don't like how the comment box for journals is right at the bottom of the page. It makes answering journal questions a little tedious since you keep having to scroll up and down.

How the 'Are you good at making story layouts' thing was basically a place for every single mibbian who had ever made a story layout, ever, to link their story/layout. And most of them weren't even that good, that I saw anyway.

People making journals about getting reported. It solves nothing and just makes you look petty.

Yes. There were a few decent ones but maybe there could have been people recommending a certain user (with like, 3 recommendations needed before they could be considered) or something.

    ---

When a male user joins, there's at least 10 welcome comments. When a girl joins, there's about half. I can see why, but I just find it annoying.

But if they thought their layouts were good, what's the harm? When I first started making layouts I was like "OMFG THIS LOOKS SO GOOD" but in reality, now later, it's like - gosh, it looked terrible.

I guess Kurtni, Audrey and Dujo will be the ultimate judges, so let them do the judging.

^ That would only work to the benefit of people who are popular on Mibba. People who are popular would get a lot of reccs (because their work would have been seen by all their friends, who could then send reccs for them), but those who weren't popular wouldn't get recommended even if they made fantastic layouts because very few people (if anyone) would have seen them.

If Dujo's willing to go through all the submissions (which he obviously is, otherwise he wouldn't have set the thread up that way), then I don't see what the problem is.

I almost never welcome male users. I skip over their profiles and go straight to the females. When I do welcome guys it's because they're usually older males around 24ish. Those guys hardly ever get welcomed because of their age and they have normal photos. I've also noticed that older females get even less welcomes than the rest.

I don't like that some users don't bother to check the gender of another user and simply use female pronouns because the majority of mibba's users are girls.

Hm. I agree in part*, however, some users take their theme beyond name / ava / sig, to gender and age. It's not always immediately apparent - even going to profiles. (Which are sometimes not accessible.) (Which is, incidentally, something I don't particularly like about Mibba.) I have seen users correct other users, though, and then others in the thread continuing to refer to the person as the wrong gender - and I do think that's lazy and rude, since the person has gone out of their way to explicate it.

[Generally] I try to use usernames or gender-neutral language - there might be people who don't feel they fit one side of the gender binary, but had to pick one. And it avoids awkwardness if someone's theme suggests male, but profile suggests female (or is blocked, or ambiguous.) I agree that people should take a moment to think before posting, but having 'male' visible on the boards ≠ identifying as male / desiring male pronouns (and, as we've said, there are [very?] few guys.)

*That the laziness is definitely a thing. And does arise from the disproportion. (And probably affects new/unfamiliar males somewhat more than established/recognised male users, which is def not what you'd want on a social/friendly website.)
