There is definitely a serious lag on Mibba at the moment, no one's denying that. At the moment, a group of staff are currently working their way through deleting old contest and RP threads to see if it can be alleviated that way, so it definitely is something that the staff are concerned about and attempting to fix. Hopefully what we're doing will fix it a little bit, but we need to wait and see what happens.

I don't like the big lack of feedback. Grr I know everyone says that I should write for myself and I do but when I'm excited to post a new chapter and get nothing back apart from the usual 'update soon!' stuff, after I've worked really hard on it, it gets really disheartening and I just wonder why I even bother in the first place.

I do want to improve and be a better writer, I want to know where I'm going wrong, where I'm doing well. But no one seems to really care and the gaps between my updates keep getting bigger and bigger. I just know there's gonna be a point where I end up stopping entirely, and I won't even care. It's not even that I'm holding the updates hostage either, if I'm in the mood to write then I will, but most of the time I just can't be bothered. Facepalm

You are one of the very few that want actual constructive criticism! I'm used to my CPs...and we don't hold back at all. I've had them take a red pen, cross out an entire page, say 'this sucks!' and then give me ways to improve it. That's what I want for feedback and that's what I give.

I don't support filler comments. When I comment on something, I'm honest about it, or I try to be. I've stopped caring if I offend someone by being politely honest. And as I rarely get comments anyway, concrit is the only kind I really reply to.

The lack of stories with some actual variety on this site.

I don't like this stigma that because you're writing what's popular, you're not being true to yourself as a writer.

I genuinely like One Direction. I enjoy writing about them. They happen to be popular. I don't like being treated like I'm only writing for readers when I am writing something that I genuinely enjoy. I would write about One Direction even if they weren't popular, and I don't like being treated otherwise.

I see a lot of people with the mindset that, because they're writing for something that's unpopular, they're being more true to themselves then people who write in big fandoms when that's just not the case.

If something is popular, that's because a lot of people like it, so chances are pretty good that the people are writing those stories are going to like it.

People's interests change as they get older and become exposed to new things. Just because you're writing about the same thing you've written about since you were 13 doesn't mean that you're more of a writer or the only person who writes for themselves, it just means that your interests haven't changed that much, where as most people's do.

There's nothing wrong with writing new things, trying new things and trying to grow as a writer, and it certainly doesn't make you less passionate about or less invested in your writing.

Ah, don't worry about it! I get really annoyed at how slow the site is 90% of the time as well, so it's totally understandable. tehe

You write what you want to write. It is generally frowned upon to write what's popular because that might not always last. In the publishing industry, writers are always cautioned against writing what's hot because those books were sold two to three years ago. By the time your book is given representation and sold to a publisher, something else will be hot.

But on Mibba, many are writing for fun, so trends aren't as big a deal. I would certainly *like* to see more variety, as it seems the same few bands are popular or the same few band members get all the spotlight. But as I read less and become more particular in what I choose to read, it naturally becomes harder to find stories I like. People like to write what's popular because at least they'll get eyes on their story, which is hard to do on Mibba anymore.

My sentiments exactly. I remember you and Maddi got me into reading 1D and it inspired me to my hand at writing one. I'm glad I tried too.

This whole "I don't like to leave feedback because someone might yell at me" ordeal in general. There's always the chance that an author won't like what you have to say about their story - it happens. And do some authors take it too far by lashing back at critiquers? Yes. And I'm sorry for the people it's happened to. But I think it's silly to not want to comment anymore because people yell at you. If it happens, be mad about it, take some time to cool off, and move on. If they're extremely rude - report them, because they may be breaking the rules. But in all honesty, I feel that after a while it just becomes an excuse to not comment anymore. If an author yells at you, don't comment their stuff, or silently read it from then on. But don't treat all authors of Mibba like they're out to get you if you leave an honest critique on their stuff.

I disagree. If it happens a lot, you'll fall into the "no good deed goes unpunished vibe". If it happens once, whatever. But most people say they come across it a lot. They can't tell who's going to be rude and who isn't. And if they don't come on mibba to get shit, thy might not want to risk it anymore.

I disagree as well. Once or twice, I don't get bent out of shape. Things happen, people don't always want my help. But when it happens repeatedly, to the point that no one is kind about the feedback and no one is kind about saying they don't want my critique, then I do quit giving feedback. I can only be burned so many times before I'm done.

    @ dru is beautiful.

No idea what kind of users you deal with, but I've never had that issue, and if I did I wouldn't stop commenting on stories. I've been given some critiques that were a bit rude, if I can be honest, but I didn't respond in the same manner. It all depends on user though, so eh. So sorry that it happened to you both more than once, though

    @ ladyschrei
But I agree with you, it really is just becoming an excuse to not put a comment. It kind of saddens me. Sad

This is going to seem like a slightly small and petty thing to be annoyed by, but since I'm really obnoxious about my signature, I'm going to state this.

I really dislike that the preview function on signature puts the signature onto a blue background instead of the white background it's going to end up. At the risk of sounding obnoxious, that doesn't help me at all. The fact of the matter is that colors look different on a blue background than they do on a white background. It's hard for me to tell if the gradient I created is actually what I want it to look like when it's on a blue background since colors, especially reds, look darker on the blue than they do on the white. I'd preview it in posts on the forum, but you can't preview gradients on the forum. Or at least when I hit 'preview' on a post that has a gradient in it, the gradient doesn't show up for me. Gradients even disappear from signatures when I hit 'preview' on a post.

I've always hated that. I never got why it has to be on a blue background... I mean honestly. Though, I no longer make signatures. When I did though it would annoy me when I would think a color would be visible, because of the blue, and then come to find out it wasn't when on the white. Facepalm
