I want to know do you think the President should be spending so much more time on things have been worked on or work on gay rights wich isnt getting many of what was promised. ( I think this falls in to politics since it envoles the President and his laws.)

Maybe he should focus on the economy for now and then worry about gay rights. I'm not saying that we should just let gay rights go, but the economy is much more important.

I believe that gay people should have equal rights, but honestly, I'd rather be assured that my parents aren't going to lose there job before I start caring that "Lacey" gets to marry "Jane." :file:

I don't live in the States, but gay rights is an issue here in Australia too.

In all honestly, I think there are often more pressing issues than gay rights - and when I say "gay rights", I'm assuming most people are referring to gay marriage.

Everyone has their own agenda of what they would like the government to fix.

At least here in the states, gay rights is one of the least things we need to worry about right now. Gay's have plenty of rights, the only right they don't have is the right to marry... is that more important than millions losing there jobs? Is that more important than millions dying of disease because they have no health care?

I think that it's an important issue. I really do. But really, my opinion is that they shouldn't be singled out as a group of freaks, because that's not what they are at all. The economy and the job market are both very important, but so are the rights of people that haven't had much to begin with.

what are you talking about?!?! There are about 3 other people groups that have fewer rights than gays that I can think of....

The only thing that a Gay man/woman can't do that a straight one can is get married, at least here in the states.

^Yes. That is what bothers me SO much about people complaining about GLBT rights. They have the same rights as everyone else, and like everyone else, they can't marry people of the same gender.

Really, there are more important things that the government could be focusing on, but at the same time, there's only so many times you can look at the same problem before you run out of solutions. There are more than two issues facing the world right now. They CAN all be addressed at some point, and the order in which they're addressed really shouldn't matter that much.

Actually, if we extend 'Gay rights' to mean 'GLBT rights', it is very optimistic to state that total equality has been achieved. Transgendered people aren't treated equally. They can lose their jobs simply for being transgendered. I can't think of a group of people who are more vulnerable to discrimination and lacking fewer rights. Is homophobia classed as a hate crime everywhere? No? Then I fail to see the equality. No one group of people can truly be called equal when they still face so much discrimination. It isn't just about changing the law. Female suffrage was achieved in 1918, does that mean women are equal today? No. A lot of you are pointing to job loss as a more important issue. Well, what if somebody loses their job for being gay? Par for the course?

GLBT people aren't treated the same, discrimination still exists and equal provision against discrimination under the law hasn't been achieved. From what I know of America, anyway. It's all very well saying there are 'more important' things but fixing GLBT rights under the law could be such a straightforward process.

I think Gay rights should be on the top of the list, although like Bloodraine said it should really be 'GLBT rights' not 'Gay rights'. And I have to say, I think the rights of the people should be more important than the economy. :shifty. They should have the same rights are straight people, because really- it just isn't fair, they're people too.

I think we should have the same rights as everyone else. If I want to marry a woman instead of a man I want to be able to do where ever the hell I feel like it and not only in specific states.

I also think it should be at the top of the list. Anyone who wants to get married should have the right too. Regardless if it's to a woman or a man. Gender should not be an issue. It should be allowed in every single state. And I agree with 'William Beckett' "the rights of the people should be more important than the economy". (:

Human rights are important, yes, but the economy affects the quality of those rights. If we don't have money to pay for insurance, people won't be able to go to the hospital if they need it because they won't have the money to pay, then one of their human rights will be violated because of the economy.

I think both subjects are very important, but the economy needs to be high so we can finally have the human rights we all are granted with.

I totally agree. We have different gay rights in England, but I agree it is ridiculous that they should have separate rights.
They are still people, after all.

    Just let them get married.

Seriously, it's kind of similar to what happened in Australia with the public apology to the Aborigines. For years they protested just because they wanted an official apology for the way they were treated when Europeans. When they got their apology, things quietened down.

So yeah. I think that if homosexual couples finally recieve the right to get married, this stuff will all die down.

I've noticed that a lot of people have been saying that the states need to focus more on the economy, and while I agree that the economy is in shambles, I'm also wondering why so many seem to think that only one thing can be done at once.

GLBT should have more rights because America is the land of the free. They certainly don't have the same rights as everyone else, and it's simply not fair to tell them to wait because they've been waiting a hell of a long time.

And gay marriage is still important because marriage has its benefits, and those benefits tie into health care and the economy.

It's unfortunate that there's still such a big deal made out of GLBT and gay marriage- especially because it could easily be solved if some people in the government would stop being a bunch of assholes.

I just don't see why allowing same sex couples to marry is something so difficult.

I think the president should do whatever presidents do. Simple.

And i think it's difficult to allow that because our nation was built on God, and God clearly doesn't like that. But of course our country is changing very quickly, so it wouldn't surprise me.
