I personally love reading stories and finding deeper layers to it. I find it fairly easy which I guess might get annoying or odd if it wasn't intentionally as deep.

So I put up my story, Rib Cage as a preview on one of my journals to get some layout and summary feedback but almost all of the comments are stating how excited they are because it sounds like the Hunger Games series. I have been reluctant to start it because I feel like when I post the chapters people will be disappointed and just drop the story.

People always say my stories are funny, which is cool and everything, but sometimes I have no idea where they get that from, especially when I try to write a serious and/or depressing story.

People say I make them laugh, which is exactly the reaction I want. I'd like to think my characters are funny XD

I don't get many comments on my story, but I just read a story and this author wrote in the comment section that she didn't like the way people were talking about one of the characters. I thought that was a little strange, because I spent 4 years studying literature, and if I learned one thing, it's that people interpret things in different ways. You as an author can't help what someone else thinks of your characters. When we read Faulkner, for example, we read a short interview with him and he had said that his character Darl was crazy since the beginning of the novel, and I refused to believe it. Even though the author said it, I refused to believe it. Because it would have changed my whole view of my favorite novel. You can create something in your mind, but once you expose it to others you can't control what they think of it. I kind of decided that as long as people are reading and putting enough thought into the writing to have intelligible conversations about it, the author's work is successfully done. Because when people read, it's something that stays with them for a long time.

Oh my Goodness, if I could somehow upvote or like your post I would. I have to admit I do get frustrated when people interpret my writing in a way that I didn't intend but I think that's the beauty of literature or anything really. None of us see or read the same thing, the same way. I come from a dance background and I realized a while ago that good literature, films, dance, etc. doesn't necessarily mean you liked it or enjoyed it but in my opinion, it was something that made you think about it long enough to form an opinion about it.

What happens a lot is that a lot of the readers know exactly which way I'm heading and I almost get kind of frustrated because I want the plot line to be unpredictable in a sense. Although usually when I'm writing a story, I don't have the entire plot line in my head. So when readers comment ideas, I might actually use that sort of plot twist in the story. But I love seeing how different people interpret my stories.

People tell me my writing's odd. It is. I get that. It's Dali-esque science fiction about things no one writes about, thinks about, or generally has any idea could possibly be a story.

Some people say I'm not as descriptive as I should be. I get that, because I'm usually very direct when it comes to describing people and things. I don't like working my way around stuff by over-describing everything. XD

I'm told my poems are "philosophical / deep / meaningful" by friends and family.
Shifty I'm just trying to write a nice poem, not make you think deeply over my words.

Apparently people like my description in terms of character interaction aka dialogue as well as characterization. Which is good. Because I re-read a lot of the conversations my characters have to make sure it doesn't sound robotic.
It's actually pretty funny when people dislike or like my character and I intended it to be that way. There always needs to be unlikeable characters for my sanity. XD

I think, for the most part, my readers usually get my characters right. There was one time I had a reader think one of my characters was a slut when she wasn't, but that's all I can think of XD
