I think it sounds like new FOB which sounds good. What does this "mainstream" sound like? Mumford and Sons? Taylor Swift? AWOLNATION? Macklemore?

I have a really stupid question -- or rather a bunch of stupid questions...
I saw on Tumblr a lot of people bitching about Ryan generally, and how he bullied Brendon. Did I miss something? Also, I didn't know Brent sued Panic? (or I may have but forgotten).

I don't hang out on Tumblr, so I haven't heard about that. I knew Brent sued the band though.

I miss the olden Panic days...this new stuff is awesome and all, but there was just something about the comradeship they all (at least seemed to have) had. You know, the days when fanfics were all slashy and cutesy and, well, when they felt like a family, I guess. Perhaps this is a personal thing though....

Either way, I'm digging some of the new stuff; not all, but some.

It isn't. I kind of feel like Panic is ... done, so to speak. I think Brendon can continue to make good music, but I kind of hope he drops the name so he doesn't rope himself into a box.

I consider Jon to be Panic's Yoko Ono. If he hadn't shown up, everything would have been fine. They should have gotten another replacement bassist. Like Will Noon.

Does Jon have new music too?
Also, 'Where I Belong' is beautiful. I'm into Panic's new album, but I definitely like Ryan's demos over some of the songs off the album.
Also, I just read the AP article where they interviewed Brendon and I'm so conflicted. I like him so much but I don't think I'm liking this new look/approach, music aside (I get that's the point, just an opinion).
On a related note: does any one have a really good primer? I have a friend who is curious, and I gave her the run down but I'm very fuzzy on the split.

I agree with that 100%. Panic! is dead, it has been for a while. I feel like Panic! was the four of those boys getting along and having fun and growing up, not the continuation of two members (though be one of them my favourite of the four) on doing things and making music that Panic! never intended to make (as in the four of them, not that they had closed music options). As for Jon being their Yoko, I'm not too sure; though I've not a lot of knowledge of Jon other than his origins and his preferred style of music (that it wasnt what Panic! was making).

This primer goes into the split pretty well. I was hardcore into the bandom at that point and sort of lost my mind over the split, so if that doesn't answer any questions, I can probably answer them.
