I was all up in some Hollywood Undead back in 2006. I don't really think they were big then, and their album didn't drop until Aug 08.

Not all of these are bands I listen to, but I knew them before they got 'big':
Avenged Sevenfold (tehe They weren't really big here in '05, when I began listening to them. Now there's so many Scottish fans, it's unreal <3), All Time Low, You Me At Six, Bring Me The Horizon, Paramore, Stone Sour, Bullet For My Valentine, Hollywood Undead, Owl City. So many more Shifty this list will get longer XD

I first heard of My Chemical Romance in 2002. A friend of mine was going ballistic over Demolition Lovers. It wasn't until 2004 when I saw Helena on fuse that I actually bothered with them though.

They may have been big in 2002 but I don't really know. I know by the time 2004 came they were.

I knew Black Veil Brides before the whole craze at Hot Topic stores started, MCR before The Black Parade, Papa Roach before The Paramour Sessions, and a few others that I can't remember. Think

For me it probably was My Chemical Romance and Paramore before they went all BIG in Malaysia. Idk, I'm into Blessthefall, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, The Sleeping and Drop Dead, Gorgeous. They're not all that big where I live.

Especially Owl City... when fire flies came out everyone only knew that one song..... the other ones are much better! People think they know the band so well when they only know one song...

I knew 3oh!3 personally before they went big, like even before Holla Till You Pass Out and all their original music came out, because they're from where I live. They used to be chill and make decent music. Now they're kind of douchebags and they're music blows. I'm kind of embarrassed they're from Colorado.

No offense to anyone who likes 3oh!3.

I saw a concert of Paramore back when I was 9 or 10, and I got to hang out with Hayley Williams after she played becuase it was freaking cold in the middle of the German winter and I didn't have any money. She ended up buying me a cup of hot cocoa while my parents were out shopping. She was really nice to me even though she didn't know me. It was cool though. :3

I've been a fan of SCANDAL since before most people knew about them. I've been listening to SCANDAL since December of 2008, which is shortly after they were signed to Sony. SCANDAL didn't really start to "blow up" probably until 2009 when they got their Shoujo S single put on the anime Bleach. Managing to get accepted to have a single on a popular anime always seems to help Japanese bands blow up both in Japan and internationally. In Japan, I think 2009 is when they first started to get more popular. But internationally, they didn't seem to get so popular until around 2010. SCANDAL has become one of the most popular bands in Japan from what I know and they're becoming pretty popular internationally as well.

Biffy Clyro. I come from the area that they're from, and you can't live here without knowing about their older stuff. Also That Sunday Feeling, who we saw at a tiny gig in Glasgow, and are now relatively big in the UK.

For actually knowing people in bands, a local band called Fatherson are getting pretty big. I used to go to brass band with the (I don't know if he still is, but he was at the time I saw them) drummer File

I don't really know for sure... It depends on what you mean by "big". Probably not though.

The Gaslight Anthem (they're not huge, but they're definitely getting more successful!)
    Paramore
Never Shout Never (I didn't listen to them at the time, but I still knew who they were)
    The 1975
