This thread has been dead for two years, but I'm gonna resurrect it. Cool? Cool.
I was looking at some of the earlier stuff I posted here and I just wanna cringe because WOW it was bad. But hey, we all gotta start somewhere, right? And that's where I started.
It's funny, when I used to post stuff here, sewing was just a hobby for me, but now it's my life. I'm a costume design major now and I pretty much do nothing but sew. But I've definitely improved since my earlier posts!
Anyways, here are some of my recent projects!
I made this back in April. I get so many compliments on it every time I wear it, oh my gosh. I actually made it because I couldn't figure out what else to wear to go see one of my favourite drag queens for the first time (Ivy Winters, who happens to be a brilliant costume designer!) so I was like "I'll just make something new." When Ivy and I met, she complimented the dress, I told her I made it, and then we talked for like, 20 minutes about sewing. It was lovely!
I don't actually watch Game of Thrones, but one of my closest friends does, and she wanted to cosplay one of the characters. She asked me my opinion of a costume she was about to buy, and I didn't think it was very good quality for the price, so I offered to make her one myself, as long as she paid for the materials. It was kind of difficult because she lives in Seattle and I was living in Florida at the time, so we couldn't have a proper fitting, but everything fit just fine!
I made this dress for Pride! I got rained on, so the dress was very wet and droopy and I unfortunately, do not have a picture of it in all of its poofy glory. But! I did make a petticoat for the very first time (without a pattern) and it was far from perfect, but I was fond of it!
Here is a dress that I just made for my costume construction class. It's completely from a pattern, which is new for me because I usually alter at least SOMETHING when I do use patterns. But I am pleased with how it turned out!
Closer shot of the bodice (how cute is that fabric?! omg.)
For Halloween this year, I decided to be The Little Mermaid in her blue dress as a human. It was my first time making a corset and I am happy with the results.
The whole costume! :)
I've also done a few small non-clothing projects, like these little drag queen dolls:
I have a few more things in the works for myself. I was also asked by one of my favourite drag queens (who is actually pretty well-known) to make her a dress. And one of my other favs (Ivy Winters, as previously mentioned.) has offered to help me with portfolio photoshoots, which is really nice!
I really like this thread because it showed me how much progress I've made over the past few years and it makes me excited to see the progress I will continue to make!
