Is anyone even really "Mibba Famous" for real anymore? Like I remember back in my day (yes, I am old) there were some individuals or groups of individuals (like Dru and her friends...does Dru even get on here anymore? If so, HI DRU! Bye) that everyone knew and most people looked up to (myself included.) Now, though, it doesn't seem that way so much. Like I still see a little of that with some staff members, but like I haven't noticed as much of a social hierarchy on this site in general as much as I once did.

I don't think I've seen anyone that I'd consider "Mibba famous" in the 3 years or so that I've been here. At least not like the "e-celebs" I saw on Quizilla back in the day. They were literally worshipped.

I don't think it ever happened to the same extent as it did on Quizilla (or on other websites I go to now like Tumblr; the "tumblr famous" are given ridiculous amounts of attention), but it really did use to be more of a thing way back in the day. I guess maybe the concept of being "mibba famous" is either dying or dead now, which is probably for the best (most "mibba famous" people didn't seem to care for being called that or didn't care for the term and how it made people treat them way differently.)

I think people are just treated a bit more equally on Mibba because it's got that community feel unlike a lot of other sites. "Mibba fame" is dead in my opinion, I'd say some people are just slightly more popular at best.

I think I would agree with your assessment. (Although, even when "mibba fame" was more of a thing; I still feel like this place had a great community vibe. It's just now it has a community vibe without any of that complication. It's slightly less of a popularity contest.)

As much as we deny it Mibba does have a "cool kids" clique. That's fine, totally normal. They're just people who have gained a lot of respect and therefore a lot of feedback on their writing in comparison to everyone else.

I don't understand why some people get angry when others say we have a "cool kids" clique. No matter where you go there is always going to be a group of people who are more popular than others and as you said, it's totally normal. From what I've seen on Mibba, most of these people don't consider themselves any better than the rest just because they're "popular". Not to mention they've probably worked hard to gain the following that they have so why is it so bad that they're getting the acknowledgement that they deserve?

I remember when "Mibba Famous" was a thing, but I think, like others have said, it's died out over the years. I remember being super jealous of said Mibba famous people, but after the big Mibba change and people leaving, I think it died. Though I do acknowledge that Mibba has a "cool kids" clique, but as it was said, that's normal. And I agree--I think the people that are more popular than others don't act any differently or superior, and deserve what they get anymore because if they have a following, they worked hard to get it.

Granted, I've seen a fair amount of people get worked up over not being a "popular Mibbian."

I was jealous of the popular users on Quizilla tehe

The thing that I've noticed with a lot of people who complain about not being "Mibba famous" or whatever is that they'll complain about it until they're blue in the face but won't actually put in any effort to change the situation.

I was jealous of the popular users on The-N. File

Exactly. That's my biggest problem when people get upset over the fact that there's users at all that are more popular than others. I understand wanting more feedback/attention, but you get what you deserve, man, and if all you do is sit around and complain rather than put forth effort into changing the situation, I can't say much it going to come to you. It's sorta like the silent readers thing. You get what you give. Coffee

But you don't always get what you deserve here. A friend of mine, a fantastic, original writer and extremely imaginative creator, gets nearly no recognition on his writing because it's outside the box of what most people here like to read.

You think he's extremely imaginative and fantastic. As he's your friend, that's called being biased. What you think is good might not be what other users think is good. I think what she meant by deserve is that if you work to promote your story and succeed and get lots of attention, then that's deserved.

But the notion of Mibba famous is silly to me because people only say that because they're jealous of what someone else has and wants it even though they don't want to work for it. When people say there's clear Mibba famous, what I think they're talking about is the Mibbians who are well-known around the site by username/theme. Like Dru and Audrey. Being recognisable is nothing to do with being "famous".

Sure it's biased. But this "notion" of having a society online that contains popular figures isn't? Dru's not just a face, she's prominent for her views on feminism and equality. Audrey is an administrator and a very active member of Mibba. Doesn't participating in and contributing to the website give someone the right to the "popular" title? You say it like it's a bad thing.

Also, not many of us are jealous...? I can't think of anyone who views Mibba's popular people as a negative thing. They've worked hard to get there. I admire that.

Sorry if I seemed rude, but there's really no denying that there's a "famous" clique here. Every society has one. It's human nature.

So, by what you're saying, everyone should be "popular" which is disputed by a lot of people who claim they're invisible and overshadowed by the actual Mibba famous. So therefore, if everyone who participates and contributes to the site is "popular" there is actually no popular group as everyone is equal? Honestly, that's what I'm getting from your response.

A lot of people, especially in the blogs section, when talking/ranting about Mibba famous are jealous because they want what they perceive that group to get. And plenty of people view the Mibba "famous" as a negative thing. Even if there's not many references to them any more, there was always drama over who was Mibba "famous" and who wasn't.

Dru is recognisable because she was very active years ago in the FBR fandom and is known for her Ryden fics. Many people associate her with her Milk fic as well. Audrey is recognisable because of her usual Audrey T username and the fact that she's an admin. That's why she's what you think is "popular", no other reason. Being recognisable and being popular are completely different things.

I just think the whole "let's admire the Mibba famous" is ridiculous because you're essentially saying that those select people are better than the rest of the users. It's a sure way to cause bickering among a community, and that certainly has happened in the past about this whole Mibba "famous" idea.

Uh? I never said anyone was better, I said that those who are considered to be "famous" have worked very hard and done a lot to get themselves out there and to be seen. Most of us here can agree on a handful of people we see as popular. As unfair as some might see it, popularity is what happens in large numbers of people no matter where the community is located.
