This one. This one surprised me the most. It looked so bad and didn't have good reviews but I was pleasantly surprised.

'The Deep Blue Sea'. I was skeptical after watching about the first fifteen minutes- particularly with the lack of dialogue and obvious symbolism. But past that, the performances of Rachel Weiz and Tom Hiddleston were incredible.

I'm going to be totally honest here; Human Centipede 2 was a lot better than I expected to be honest!

I can say I was really skeptical about how good I'd be. My BF wanted to see if so badly and for about two weeks I kept telling him no until yesterday I finally agreed. It was great. Worth the money to see in theaters, definitely or (if your more like me) spending the dollar and change on the redbox rental.

A while back my husband and I were looking for stupid horror movies to watch on Netflix and we found a movie called Monkey Shines which we figured would be good for a laugh. We were both very surprised by how good it actually was. I mean it was still kinda a b-movie, but it was shockingly decent in the writing and acting department!

I tried watching the first one the day I told my friends I'd see the sequel in theaters, but I hated it so much I couldn't finish it. So I went in with lower expectations because I knew I was going to have to suck it up. But, I actually ended up really liking it; it's was hilarious, and the plot didn't make me cringe.

My dad constantly surprises me with movies that are better than I thought they would be. I think 12 Monkeys was the latest one. The special effect were endearing at best, but it was really good in a weird, trippy way.

It had quite bad reviews, so I was undecided if I was going to see it. In the end, I did, and I loved it. Everything made me smile, it was basically everything I looked for in a movie. Time travel, post apocalyptic scenes, romance... I loved it .

I thought that Machine Gun Preacher was going to be a flashy, shoot 'em up style movie, but it was actually a very powerful portrayal of the violence in Africa and it's affect on children there. Gerard Butler was great.

My brothers made me watch Revolver in the effort to make me like Jason Statham... I didn't end up liking him, but the movie was actually a lot more complicated and intricate than I expected it to be.

Bronson I expected to be good, but was surprised by just how good it was.
Tom Hardy, who played Bronson, was brilliant and shameless.
And another Hardy movie, "Locke". I didn't know exactly what to expect, but it was so simple and brilliant, just... yeah. Quality.

The Lazarus Effect, like, so many reviews made it out to be the worst thing ever and I really enjoyed it. It was a lot better than what I thought it would be.

how do you have "too many" jump scared in a horror / thriller movie???

    John Wick.
Movies with a lot of fighting in them are more my husband's forte, but I actually enjoyed this movie.

Actually, for some reason I tend to misjudge all of Keanu Reeves' work. I seem to always think I'm going to regret watching his movies, but I never do. Well...I can't say never. While I did enjoy 47 Ronin, the ending kind of killed it for me. Hey! I can add that to the other topic about sucky endings!

Spy - saw the commercial for it like once or twice. Never even entertained the thought of seeing it, but caught up with an old friend who suggested dinner and a movie. Boy, was I surprised and glad I checked it out. Melissa McCarthy is all kinds of funny in this one and Jason Statham as well. Lots more action than I expected, which was great, and even though Rose Byrne played the part of the bitch, I still liked her character. This is one for the DVD collection.

Run All Night - Ahhhhh, one really can't go wrong with Liam Neeson. He should play a terminator because he is just super badass. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat, had some sweet cinematography, and it wasn't too predictable. Honestly, I liked this better than all of the Taken movies put together. Two thumbs way up!!!

I saw American Ultra with some friends a few days ago, and I had fairly low expectations considering it was advertised as a movie about a stoner CIA dude. Surprisingly, it was a pretty good movie, and I enjoyed it well enough.

Hopefully this isn't obnoxious of me to do (especially with how late I am to your comment), and if it is then feel free to ignore me. The reason why some people, including myself, will say that there's too many jump scares in a horror/thriller is that after a certain point jump scares no longer work. Horror/thrillers can't be just that one note, because once they stop working then there's no point to them. Well placed jump scares are excellent and I adore them, but you have to have the right atmosphere and handle them well. So basically at some point in the movie, a lot of us just looked like this. Some people disagree with me and that's fine, not everyone is scared by the same stuff. I'm thoroughly convinced that spiders are evil monstrosities that should be wiped off the planet and some people think I'm irrational. I don't trust those people, but that's beside the point.
Odd Thomas was way better than I thought it would be. Finally watched it on netflix and while definitely not a horror movie in my mind, it was definitely an interesting drama. Although that possibly means I shouldn't like it since it completely failed, in my mind, as a horror or as a thriller. I wasn't really uneasy or scared during any point in the movie. I was just thoroughly engaged in what the characters were doing and how they were going to get through it, so I still see the movie as a win, although I don't agree with the category it's in.
