I get my characters from myself, other people I know, and TV/Movie characters

Anywhere really, but lately it's been by shows I've finished watching and want to recreate a version of them but with a twist or only few similarities between them. Kind of like their character vicariously living through mine, haha.

Nearly all of my minor characters are based off people I know in real life, though I usually change their names.

I based my characters off of qualities from people I know. Some of my characters are based off of qualities I love and hate.

My characters mostly come from my imagination, maybe with little bits of other people tucked into them.

I start with the general idea of what I want to write about and then, I look at a baby name app I have on my phone. And then my brain just kind of runs wild while I skim through pictures to try and find a perfect match for the person I want to write about. And on rare occasions, I end up doing a sort of character profile and tada! I have a character that I love :)

Usually I just start writing about them in the story as ideas pop up into my head. Most come from my imagination with a few characteristics I like. Some will be a little like me or characters from shows/movies also.

My main characters almost always have some part of me in there. A small part of myself. Maybe a flaw, a talent, a wish, a thought. It's there. It's what makes it easier for me to bring them to life. Because I'm taking a part of myself and building off of that. I don't know, I find that to be easiest. My sub characters are almost always based off of someone I know, have seen, associate with. My friends personalities and characteristics are often seen in the personalities and characteristics of the friends of my main characters.

I try to create original characters but a lot of my main female characters will be either independent or strong or sassy because that's how I view myself XD I struggle to write a character who is weak (emotionally/mentally) because I can't identify with that. I've had friends who are like that and it irritates the shiz out of me, so writing a character like that would be infinitely frustrating.

They kind of just come together in my head although I think I unintentionally make the female characters a lot like me.

Everyone of my characters (except for Jenna from The Black Swan) have been made up to fit the plot. I never come up with the character first and only then with the rest. I don't think they are as relevant as the plot itself in the very beginning.
But the question- how? I don't even know, I guess all of them have been roaming through my brain for a long time. The right question should be- are they willing to come out and play?

I don't honestly know. Usually I'll start drawing and someone new will appear in the lines.

Usually my characters are inspired by people I've met in real life or someone I just passed by. Their "base" is inspired off of those things, and then with music and TV and writing about them (doing those character development things), they just kind of grow into the final product and then I have more imaginary friends.
