When you're starting a new story, how do you do it?

I have definitely had this problem quite a few times. What always helps me is to think about what kind of details I want in my story.
Do I want foreshadowing? If so I can start with a flashback.
Do I want symbolism? If so I can start by introducing some of that.

If all else fails I simply start by writing the ending and hope that the beginning just falls into place.

    That's really help full!
    Thanks!
I've been trying for weeks to come up with something good. But I haven't been able to have any luck.

Its kind of lame, but I am trying to write a werewolf story, and I just got the idea, by thinking about something that I always wanted to happen, and based the first paragraph off that! It was the whole "knight in shining armor appears under your window" kind of thing xD

Hmmmm. Not much for werewolf stories, but let me know when you've got something up and I'll read it (:

Oh, wow! That would be really great! Thanks!
Haha, right now my ideas are all jumbled, so I'm just writing them down, and then I will orginize them later, when everything in my head is written down. Haha.

    Lol, I'm not alone! =D
I am debating on if I want to write this into a notebook too, being that I am typing it.
Its probably the best idea, unless I can take a milllion pound desktop MAC around with me all the time xD

Hahahahaha. Well I have a laptop, so I only keep poems down in a notebook. If I'm ever without my computer I just write on stickie notes and then jot in all down later (:

My sister has a Macbook and she loves it. I have a Sony Vaio and it works great too. I guess it's all just preference.

I usually start with action. It's so much easier than starting with description. Then if you want to add some descriptive introduction, you can go back later.

I sometimes start with a line of dialogue. Or a bit of action. Or I make some sort of statement as to the place or time.

I pretty much always start with description. For me, it's much easier than starting with action or dialogue, and I by far prefer reading stories that start with description rather than action/dialogue.

^ I like starting with a small bit of dialogue and then a lot of narrative.
