^ I like starting with a small bit of dialogue and then a lot of narrative.
I do that a lot, too. Sometimes when you open a book or read a story, seeing this big block of narrative can be a bit jarring. For some reason, adding a bit of dialogue in there makes it less daunting. It also helps to get the ball rolling.

I have this problem a lot!! What I usually do is write down a few short beginnings, some start with narrative, some start with dialogue, or some start with a bit of both. Then I pick one and start developing it, it works every time :)

I just think an opening line and build from there. It's one of my golden rules of writing.
Starting with a line of dialogue is always helpful.

I tend to start with dialogue, because I think it draws in a reader more than just description or dialogue. Or I write some action in the beginning to draw people in, because sometimes description being the first thing to read can be a little annoying for the reader.

Or at least to me because while I don't mind it as much, it does annoy me a little if there's this huge chunk of description right at the beginning of a piece.

My ideal start would be a short paragraph (2-3 sentences) that throws something dramatic at the reader to pull them in, but I don't always do that XD
